Cassidy Miller has been hired as the new Canton head volleyball coach.

Miller, a 2019 Canton graduate, was approved at last Wednesday’s District 66 school board meeting as the program’s fourth head coach since 2016. The former Cassidy Locke replaces Linzie Mitchell, who served on the Canton sidelines for the last five seasons.

Locke, an all-Mid-Illini Conference second-team player in 2017 and 2018, takes over a team that went 19-118 (.139) during Mitchell’s tenure. Last season, the Little Giants were 2-29 overall and 0-14 in Mid-Illini play.

The Little Giants are on a 75-match losing streak in conference play, dating back to a three-set win over East Peoria on Oct. 8, 2019. That victory ended a 141-match losing streak in league play that began following a Oct. 1, 2009 win.

Canton has never won an Illinois High School Association regional title, claiming its last postseason victory in 2022 — a two-set Class 2A regional quarterfinal win over Manual.
