Car show, auction, raffle to raise money for woman battling cancer

Cline said her mother offered to make a quilt and raffle it. As other people were inspired to help in other ways, the raffle grew into a much larger event with at least four quilts being raffled, a live auction and the car show, Cline said.
“That’s been absolutely amazing,” she said. “People have their own lives and issues and it’s just nice they could help out.”
“That’s a real downer when you’re fighting cancer,” she said.
The Kruz-in for Kayren is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at the Logan County Extension Office Complex.
For much of the time following the diagnosis, Essenpreis has been unable to work and subsequently lost her longtime paramedic job, Cline said.
Cline said she and Essenpreis’ other immediate relatives found out about the cancer in July.
“It was horrible. Kayren was always so strong and strong-willed,” she said. “This has just been a real whirlwind because she always was such a worker.”
Clay Bilyeau, a Logan County resident who has experience putting together similar events, has been involved with organizing the Kruz-in.
Roughly 250 raffle tickets, at apiece, have already been sold, Cline said, adding that she’s surprised by the amount of community support she’s seen.
With a COBRA insurance plan for coverage, Essenpreis and her husband have been paying high deductibles for her treatment, Cline said.
Lorie Cline said the event is a benefit for her sister, Kayren Essenpreis, whose cancer was discovered in July.
Bilyeau said the vehicle shows are a contest, with awards to be given out for best car, best truck, best motorcycle and best overall.
The Kruz-in will feature a car/truck/motorcycle show that costs to enter, a raffle with tickets and a live auction, as well as food and activities for kids like cornhole and temporary tattoos.
“They’re not about to lose their house, but they’re like the rest of us. They have bills,” she said.
The event is free to attend.
A car show and live auction in Russellville will raise funds to help a Warren County woman who’s been struggling with lung and brain cancer for roughly a year.
“We’re down to one brain tumor we’re concerned about right now,” she said.
“We’ve just kind of thrown it all together to raise money for her insurance,” she said.
Cline said she didn’t think Essenpreis, who was scheduled for a round of radiation therapy Tuesday, would be available for comment.

Kyle Busch has revealed what he wants to achieve in the Cup Series before he retires from NASCAR altogether.

The two-time Cup Series champion turned 40 in May, and has since been asked a host of questions about his NASCAR future and remaining goals.

During a recent appearance on Denny Hamlin’s Actions Detrimental podcast, Busch was asked by his fellow racing star what he would like to achieve before he retires.

The 40-year-old revealed he wanted to surpass Dale Earnhardt Sr’s win tally of 76 to place him eighth in the list of most Cup Series wins, and also a Daytona 500 victory.

“[The] Daytona 500 obviously,” Busch said.

“If I was to retire yesterday, I don’t know if that means anything. I would love to have that trophy, that accolade.”

Busch maps out NASCAR future

Busch continued to map out how his ideal NASCAR future would appear before he retired, whilst also sneaking in a quick criticism of the NextGen cars.

“If I got four more years, let’s just say, 44, if I got four more left… I’d like to run five more because that would put me in the bracket of age for then Brexton,” Busch said.

“If I can get above 70 (wins), for me that would be perfect.”

“With the world we live in with this NextGen car and racing and everyone wrecking on final restarts and all this BS, if you can have a three or four race-win season and make it to the Championship 8, that is a good season.

“The icing gets put on the cake when you make it to the Final 4 and then you [blow out] the candle if you’re the champion.”

Busch’s last Cup Series victory was in 2023 at the Enjoy Illinois 300, and will hit a 70-race-winless streak if he fails to win the upcoming Coca-Cola 600.

Denny Hamlin: Kyle Larson wasn’t as dominant at Kansas as it seems

Kyle Larson won another race over the weekend. Fans who tuned in watched the wheelman of the No. 5 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports become the class of the field once again on his way to Victory Lane.

While you’ve got to give Larson his credit, Denny Hamlin believes there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to his performance at Kansas Speedway. The veteran Toyota driver explained why Larson was really good on Sunday, but he wasn’t quite as dominant as the statistics made it seem.

“Every contender that was even close (to Larson at Kansas) stepped on their d***. I don’t know what else to say about it. It’s not his fault that we all can’t execute,” Hamlin proclaimed, via Actions Detrimental. “I think that, even when he lost the lead, he became pedestrian, just like he was at Texas. I caution this — I think he’s less dominant than what he’s been in the years past.

“I think he’s fast, but I think he can be had. That’s in the sense of — he’s doing a really good job at qualifying well, executing, not making mistakes, and not putting himself in the middle of the pack. When he gets in the middle of the pack, I haven’t seen the speed that I’ve seen in them have before. I just — I don’t know. Even with no clutch, I was confident that I could get them. … But, I mean, you got to give them their due, right?

“They’re doing everything right. They’re fast. I don’t think there’s anyone faster in the field. But I just don’t — I think the stats are showing a more dominant race than what it actually was, if that makes any sense at all. It probably doesn’t. … I know there’s an outcry of like, you know, he’s stinking up shows and things like that, but it’s not his fault. That’s not his fault. It’s not his fault. I don’t think we should fault them for that.

“You’ve got to give them their due for executing like they’re supposed to and nobody else is doing it. So that’s, you know — he’s winning them in a very dominant fashion, statistics-wise. But, you know, who knows, right? Maybe he’s got more lap-time left in the bank, and if someone goes up there and actually challenges them, he’ll step on the pedal and embarrass all of us. We don’t know because it’s just — it’s not happening quite yet.”

While Hamlin makes some great points, Larson did have a pretty memorable weekend at Kansas. The Hendrick Motorsports wheelman started on pole, won Stage 1, won Stage 2, led 221 laps, had the fastest lap and of course, won the race. Those 221 laps out front set a NASCAR record for most laps led in a Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway, as well.

All told, it’s not Kyle Larson’s fault the rest of the field couldn’t get out of their own way. We’ll see if Denny Hamlin has anything for the Hendrick Motorsports star going forward, as the All-Star Race and the Coca-Cola 600 are on the docket.
