The trading card industry is also bumpin’. A Pittsburgh Pirates Paul Skenes card recently sold for .11 million at auction. He’s pitched in 24 career games.

Opening Day rosters were released, and for many collectors, when the announcements were made, they weren’t looking for Ichiro or Jeter cards. They were looking for the next generation.
This year’s latest trend includes some big names, especially for fans in the south-central Pa. area. Players like the Orioles’ Coby Mayo, the Pirates’ Bubba Chandler and the Phillies’ Andrew Painter are all expected to make quite a splash for their teams and for card collectors.
Sometimes, the investment in a player’s card can often be a swing and a miss, but Dreisbach said it’s never about just one plate appearance.
“I’m going to turn a little optimistic, and I personally hope Andrew Painter comes in and breaks every single pitching record ever,” said Dreisbach. “Realistically, hopefully, there is a bit of a feeding frenzy around his MLB debut patch, which should probably be coming this year.”
“The start of the new season is always a hectic time at sports card shops, and the start of this season has been pretty bumpin’ so far,” said Chris Dreisbach, co-owner of Red Rose Sports.
“Being a huge sports fan, it makes it real easy to follow these markets for me, but staying up with the trends is extremely important when you run a business,” said Dreisbach.
With the start of the 2025 season, collectors are investing in the next generation of star players.
“Being in Pennsylvania this last year, Paul Skenes was the hot ticket,” said Dreisbach.
LANCASTER, Pa. — The MLB season is officially underway, and with teams like the Phillies, Orioles and Pirates all optimistic about this season, so are card collectors.
