Roswell High fans were not allowed at Tuesday night’s game in Hobbs, according to a Facebook post from Roswell High School.”Four (players were suspended) for one game. Two (players suspended) for two games and one (player suspended) for four games,” Washburn said.The two teams were scheduled to play in late January as weather postponed the game to Monday. Carlsbad won 53-49 and the regular season ends at home Friday night against Hobbs.He said six student athletes were suspended for various games due to the on-court brawl.
Carlsbad High School won the game 46-43 at Roswell High School, but only after a fight among players broke out on court. Video from the game indicated Carlsbad’s Damian Perez and two Roswell players chased after a loose basketball on the middle of the court as time ran out and a fight ensued between both teams.A brawl at the end of the Roswell and Carlsbad boys’ basketball game Feb. 10 led to the suspensions of some fans and six student athletes, said Carlsbad Municipal Schools Superintendent Dr. Gerry Washburn.Carlsbad Municipal Schools (CMS) Athletics Director Greg Haston said fans were then allowed to attend the game held Carlsbad High School.
The Roswell High School Facebook post said some spectators were banned from all NMAA events for the next year.The Coyotes travel to Clovis Friday night and fans will be admitted to that game, read the social media post.No arrests were made by the Roswell Police Department, said spokesperson Todd Wildermuth, as a result.
