MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Exact Sciences and the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County teamed up on Wednesday to host a basketball camp for club members.
Kids participated in basketball drills, which were led UW-Madison athletes. UW-Madison men’s basketball player Carter Gilmore was among those athletes who spent time with the kids by taking photos and signing autographs.
Gilmore said it was a special experience for him to give back to the community.
“This is super important to me, just giving back to my community,” said Gilmore . “I was one of these kids back in my day. I just wanted someone to look up to, a role model. And so now that I’m in this place I’m just happy that I can be someone in those shoes and be a role model and be an example for them.”
The goal of the event was to unite the youth, local athletes and community members to inspire the next generation of sports.
He told WMTV he hopes to be a role model and inspire the next generation to follow their dreams.
