The Centre Area Transportation Authority is offering local youth free rides for the summer.
Now through Aug. 31, riders 18 and younger can get unlimited access to CATA services, including CATA Bus and CATA Go, at no cost with a free Youth Pass.
To obtain a free Youth Pass, students must visit CATA’s customer service center, 108 E. Beaver Ave. in State College, and present a current school identification card, a photo ID that includes their date of birth, or a birth certificate as proof of age.
The initiative aims to help young riders explore their independence, engage with their communities and make the most of their summer through the use of public transportation in the Centre Region, according to CATA.
“Learning to ride the bus gives young people the same kind of freedom they got when they learned to ride a bike; it opens a world of possibilities,” CATA CEO David Rishel said in a news release. “We are delighted to offer this to younger riders throughout the Centre Region for free this summer.”
