Tobler, a Carroll County varsity softball assistant since 2013 and a long-time Carroll County teacher, passed away unexpectedly Dec. 23 at his home. Also an 8th grade girls’ basketball coach and a former Carroll football coach, Tobler’s legacy on the Cavalier softball program was readily apparent at Thursday’s ceremony as hordes of current and former Carroll softball players came back to Cavalier Park. As part of the ceremony, Carroll softball players past and present covered first base (Tobler was the Cavaliers’ first base coach) with flowers, pictures and loving messages. They completed the ceremony by placing approximately 40 softballs around the memorial in the shape of a heart.
Typically a place of happiness, joy and competitive spirit, not a dry eye could be found at Cavalier Park on Thursday as members of the Carroll County softball family and close friends came together to celebrate the life of Jeff Tobler.
