The high school girls’ volleyball season is right around the corner as the start of official practice is Wednesday with the regular season tipping off Aug. 11.
Do local squads have what it takes to have special seasons and perhaps make deep postseason runs?
Here is a look at local NCHSAA and private school players to watch out for in the 2025 season. Names were provided by the coach of every local team. If a team is not represented on the list, the coach declined to provide names.
Hannah Buchan, Croatan: The senior setter/right-side hitter looks to play a larger role for the Cougars, who were 15-9 overall and 7-3 in the Coastal Conference.
Emily Gray, Croatan: The senior outside hitter was first-team all-area last year after she recorded 185 digs, 176 kills and 37 aces.
McKenna O’Kane, Croatan: The junior middle setter/right-side hitter was second-team all-area after she netted 142 kills, 115 digs, 97 assists, 50 aces and 17 blocks.
Lizzy Capps, Dixon: The junior setter had 254 assists, 169 digs, 65 kills, 38 aces and nine blocks for the Bulldogs, who were 7-16 overall and 3-7 in the Coastal Conference.
Kaylie Moore, Dixon: The senior libero had 211 digs, 30 assists and nine kills.
Aileen Lowman, Dixon: The sophomore middle hitter had 81 kills, 19 blocks and 18 aces.
Ari Stone, Dixon: The senior outside hitter had 281 digs, 254 assists, 156 kills, 27 aces and 13 blocks.
Kinsey Cave, East Duplin: The junior middle blocker was third-team all-area after she had 138 kills, 105 digs, 43 assists, 17 aces and 10 digs for the Panthers, who were 15-7 overall and 7-5 in the East Central Conference.
Zoe Cavenaugh, East Duplin: The senior outside hitter was first-team all-area after she recorded 174 kills, 168 digs, 30 aces and 15 assists.
Karsyn Parker, East Duplin: The junior libero was second-team all-area after she had collected 188 digs, 67 aces, 16 kills and 13 assists.
Zoe Turner, East Duplin: The senior outside hitter was third-team all-area after she had 124 digs, 107 kills, 26 aces,
Lakota Flatt, Jacksonville: The junior outside hitter was second-team all-area after she recorded 385 digs, 208 kills, 31 blocks, 30 assists and 25 aces for the Cardinals, who were 9-12.
Athena Teel, Jacksonville: The junior right-side hitter/setter was third-team all-area after she had 232 digs, 161 kills, 56 blocks, 40 assists and 29 aces.
Julianna Barrientos, Jacksonville Christian Academy: The sophomore opposite hitter was third-team all-area after she had netted 169 kills, 141 digs, 84 aces and 40 assists for the Conquerors, who were 25-8 overall and won the Mid Atlantic Athletic Association 2-A tournament title.
Anna Hodges, Jacksonville Christian Academy: The senior middle blocker had 151 digs, 146 kills, 66 blocks, 63 aces and 11 assists.
Selma Scott, Jacksonville Christian Academy: The senior setter was first-team all-area after she recorded 590 assists, 173 digs, 106 kills, 95 aces and 19 blocks.
Violette Smith, Jacksonville Christian Academy: The senior libero collected 311 digs, 37 aces, 26 kills and 17 assists.
Kasyn Griffey, Lejeune: The junior outside hitter had 66 kills, 26 digs and 18 aces for the Devilpups, who were 4-14.
Jaeda James, Liberty Christian Academy: The senior was third-team all-area after she had 192 kills, 93 digs, 47 aces and 27 blocks for the Heat, which were 6-13.
Alleyna Morton, Liberty Christian Academy: The senior had 113 digs, 73 kills and 40 aces.
Addison Duran, Living Water Christian: The senior setter had 76 digs, 43 assists, 35 kills and 29 aces for the Warriors, who were 3-13.
Madyson Wills, Northside: The senior had 115 kills, 100 digs, 41 blocks, 35 aces and 26 assists for the Monarchs, who were 2-17.
Cameron Cubas, Richlands: The senior libero collected 197 digs, 22 aces and 10 assists for the Wildcats, who were 8-14.
Kamdyn Dickerson, Richlands: The senior outside hitter had 69 kills and 41 digs.
Dixie Johnson, Southwest: The senior middle hitter had 113 kills, 49 digs 46 aces and 15 blocks for the Stallions, who went 4-17.
Julie Padgett, Southwest: The senior setter had 197 assists, 85 digs, 49 aces and 26 kills.
Alyssa Carkhuff, White Oak: The senior recorded 245 digs 52 blocks, 35 kills and 27 aces for the Vikings, who went 7-10.
Mariah Reeves, White Oak: The senior was second-team all-area after she recorded 323 assists, 125 digs, 54 kills, 49 aces and 22 blocks.
Brianna Sherman, White Oak: The senior had 200 digs, 127 kills, 32 blocks and 29 aces.
Kylie Stephens, White Oak: The senior had 221 digs, 30 blocks, 29 kills and 20 aces.
