BATON ROUGE, LA. – Gamecocks beach volleyball bowed out of the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association’s postseason tournament on Friday. South Carolina finishes the season with a 14-17 overall record after losses to No. 7 Texas (3-0) and No. 11 LSU (3-1).

With weather threatening delays, all duals on Friday were played to decision. In the morning opener, the top-seeded Longhorns (26-9) jumped ahead 2-0 after holding off a furious rally from Rachel Hartmann and Riley Whitesides on court two. After losing the first set, the Gamecock duo won 23-21 in the second set before falling 23-21 in the third. Texas clinched the dual victory with a sweep on court five.

In the elimination dual against LSU (24-11), the Gamecocks split the first wave of matches after Hartmann and Whitesides earned some redemption with a 21-18, 21-14 sweep on court two. The Tigers pushed ahead 2-1 in the dual after a tight 21-19, 21-19 sweep on court five, but the final two matches on courts one and three would head to third sets. Morgan Downs and Evie Ziffer put themselves into position to even the dual late in the third set on court three, but LSU won 17-15 to end the Gamecocks’ comeback hopes.

The Keiser track and field team will be back in the postseason this weekend when they take part in the 2025 Sun Conference Championships. The Seahawks will be focused on championship glory, and aim to cap off a very successful outdoor season that has already seen three program records set. Keiser comes into this weekend’s meet with six national qualifying marks, and will look to add to that total in Lakeland.

Prior to Hawaii men’s volleyball’s season opener in early January, coach Charlie Wade made the goal for his team crystal clear.

“The expectation is for us to be the best team in the country,” he said. “Win every night we go out.”

When healthy, and at times with four freshmen in the starting lineup, the third-ranked Rainbow Warriors have done exactly that.

Hawaii won 20 of its first 21 matches, finished second to No. 1 Long Beach State in the difficult Big West Conference, and put three players on the all-conference first team released Wednesday.

Yet, despite all of that, the Rainbow Warriors find themselves playing for their season tonight in the semifinals of the Outrigger Big West Men’s Volleyball Championship at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.

A third meeting against UC Irvine (21-6), which UH swept twice earlier this season, will determine whether Hawaii (24-5) not only moves on to play for a conference title, but secures at least an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament, which would mark UH’s fifth trip to the NCAAs in the past six seasons.

UH isn’t taking any chances, even if it makes it to the Big West final.

“We think Friday and Saturday are must wins,” UH sophomore setter Tread Rosenthal said. “Obviously first it would be good to get past Irvine, but we don’t want to leave (anything up to chance).”

Rosenthal started as a freshman for a UH team that lost to the Anteaters in the semifinals last season, ending a run of four consecutive trips to the NCAA final.

UH retooled its roster in the offseason, bringing in a talented recruiting class that includes freshmen all-conference selections Kristian Titriyski at opposite and Adrien Roure on the outside.

Freshman Ofeck Hazan has started 13 matches at middle blocker, Finn Kearney and Kainoa Wade have played in all but one match, and redshirt freshman Justin Todd has started 16 matches at middle blocker.

With Rosenthal and fellow sophomore Louis Sakanoko also in the lineup, the nucleus for UH men’s volleyball is in place for not just this year, but the next two to three years as well.

They are ahead of schedule, but as Wade pointed out prior to the start of the season, despite the youth, there still was a belief this team could make it as far as some of the more experienced squads in years past.

“We still believe we can be the best team in the country at the end of the season,” Wade said after UH’s loss at UC Santa Barbara in its regular-season finale last weekend. “Now, we’ve got to get healthy and get some guys back, but we have shown we are capable of playing at the highest level.”

The expectation is Sakanoko will be available to make his 18th start of the season after missing both matches on the road last weekend.

Titriyski, who leads the team in scoring and aces, is still working his way back from an ankle injury, but is out of a boot and was jumping and hitting in practice on Wednesday.

The Anteaters present a major challenge despite how both regular-season matches went earlier this season.

Hilir Henno, the reigning AVCA National Player of the Year, is second in the country in points, kills and aces per set.

UCI’s current six-game losing streak is the longest in the Big West. UH didn’t find out its opponent until late Thursday night.

“We kind of throw a little wider net and in terms of general preparation, there are six teams here and you don’t have your regular practice time,” Wade said. “We’ve been in this situation before and you recognize you’re going to get to play one of two teams and we will get to see them live. We will be alright.”

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – No. 2 seed North Florida beach volleyball split a pair of duals with No. 3 seed Florida Gulf Coast and No. 1 seed Stetson in day two action at the 2025 Atlantic Sun Championships held at John Hunt Park on Friday. 
 
North Florida’s 3-0 win against Florida Gulf Coast marked the 17th sweep and the second ranked win of the season. The Ospreys defeated the Eagles for a second time and earned its 12th win against an ASUN opponent.
 
North Florida clinched the dual with Florida Gulf Coast on straight-set wins at the three, four and five lines to advance to the ASUN Championships Semifinal. Redshirt sophomore Sophia Notaro and senior Andrea Da Silva handled the five line, 21-18, 26-24. Sophomore Eden Anderson and senior Hayden Wooldridge took their court at four, 21-14, 21-17. Junior Madison Espy and senior Mariana Feliciano Sanchez added 22-20, 21-16 win at three to secure the swift sweep. The Ospreys’ top two tandems were both leading on their respective courts when the dual was won.
 
North Florida then fell in the ASUN Championships Semifinal to the top-seeded Stetson, 3-2. With the score tied 2-2, the dual went to the top court in which the Hattlers used a late run in the third set to secure the win. Stetson also added wins at the two and four lines. Da Silva and Notaro recorded a 21-14, 21-16 win at five before Espy and Feliciano Sanchez turned in a 21-17, 21-19 win at three to tally the pair of points for North Florida. 

North Florida will battle the winner of the No. 3 FGCU/No. 4 North Alabama on Saturday at 12 p.m. for a spot in the ASUN Championships Final.

Bears Earn Season Sweep Of San Jose State

LOS ANGELES – Fourth-seeded California advanced through the MPSF Women’s Water Polo Championship quarterfinals with a stifling 15-7 win over No. 5 seed San Jose State on Friday afternoon at UCLA’s Spieker Aquatics Center.
 
Cal (18-4) completed the season sweep of the Spartans (13-12) with its fourth win in the head-to-head series this year and will now face host and top-seeded UCLA (18-4) in the semifinals at 12:45 p.m. PT Saturday.
 
The Golden Bears’ defense kept San Jose State at bay throughout the match, limiting the Spartans to a 1-of-8 effort in 6-on-5 opportunities. Talia Fonseca came up with seven saves, two steals and added a pair of assists.
 
Junior Abbi Magee netted a hat trick to lead the Bears in scoring, but it was a trio of freshmen in Miriam Bogachenko, Eszter Varró and Holly Dunn who collectively set the tone offensively with two goals apiece. Nine total Bears scored in yet another balanced attack.
 
San Jose State got on the scoreboard first before Cal responded with four unanswered goals in the first period, including three from Bogachenko (two) and Varró. Fonseca, a redshirt freshman, halted two shots in the first period and came up big yet again before halftime with a penalty-shot save that kept Cal’s lead at 6-2.
 
The Bears entered halftime with a 7-3 advantage and stretched their lead to six goals by the end of the third period (11-5).
 
Back-to-back goals by the Spartans within a 35-second span early in the fourth quarter cut Cal’s lead to five, but scores from Julia Bonaguidi, Dunn and Kate Meyer over the final four minutes put the contest away.

UP NEXT
Cal will look to advance to the MPSF Championship title match for the second straight season with a win against top-ranked UCLA on Saturday afternoon. UCLA topped the Bears 12-7 in their lone meeting this season on March 8 in Los Angeles.
