A Panhandle man with prior criminal history is facing theft charges after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from a former employer.

42-year old Febronio “J.R.” Plasencio has been arrested on charges of Theft by Unlawful Taking (above $5,000) according to the Chadron Police Department last November. Now Dawes County Courts have amended the charges to Attempt of a Class 2A Felony.

According to court documents, the former manager of Chadron’s Arby’s restaurant has been accused of taking more than $36,000 across 20 different cash deposits from the fast food establishment.

This isn’t Plasencio’s first legal troubles. In fact, there’s been several instances of theft specifically in his history. The first incident comes out of Morrill County in 2019 when Plasencio broke into a bar and stole $4,000. The second incident stems from Scotts Bluff County where he stole money from a GoFundMe which he had started to benefit the children of a local woman killed in a car crash.

Febronio Plasencio is set to reappear in court on December 9th, 2025 to enter a plea deal.
