Chattanooga Christian boys' soccer coach resigns with team 15

The nationally ranked Chattanooga Christian School boys’ soccer team will have to continue what has been a successful season so far under new leadership.

Tyler Robertson, who has coached in some capacity at CCS since 2018, resigned as head coach of the Chargers on Friday. CCS athletic director Eric Preszler confirmed Robertson’s resignation to the Times Free Press but would not say why he stepped down, and messages to Robertson for comment were not returned Sunday.

Preszler, who was hired last May, said assistant head coach Jorge Segura will act as interim head coach for the rest of the season, which continues for the undefeated Chargers with Monday’s 7 p.m. home match against Baylor in TSSAA Division II-AA East Region competition. CCS, which is ranked fifth in the country by MaxPreps, is 15-0 overall and looks like the state championship favorite in Division II-AA after outscoring opponents 72-6 so far this season.

The notable wins for the Chargers include a 3-1 region triumph against reigning state champion McCallie on April 9, which was their first victory against the Blue Tornado in more than two decades. Monday’s match against Baylor (7-5-2, 2-1) is the regular-season finale for the Chargers, who are 3-0 in region play and would lock up the DII-AA East regular-season title with a win.

“We have nine seniors on this team, and six of them have a good chance to play college soccer,” Robertson told the Times Free Press after the win against McCallie, which ended a 24-game unbeaten streak for the Blue Tornado. “They have played together since they were in third or fourth grade. We have adopted the motto ‘Why not us?’ We are at the bottom of the totem poll in everyone’s eyes, but we just have kept working and have built a strong culture and brotherhood in our program.

“The boys executed well today and represented our school so well. I am so proud of them.”

Robertson, a Notre Dame High School graduate, was named head coach of the CCS girls’ soccer team in January 2022 and took over the boys’ program in January 2024, making this the second school year in which he led both. He compiled a 31-4-2 record with the Chargers and was 39-12-4 with the Lady Chargers, who play a fall schedule.

New Terre Haute logo highlights city's history and sports

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) — Dozens of officials and residents gathered outside Terre Haute City Hall on Thursday morning to witness the unveiling of the city’s new logo and brand. The design, crafted with Terre Haute’s architectural and cultural history in mind, marks a significant step in updating the city’s visual identity.

Mayor Brandon Sakbun emphasized the importance of differentiating the new logo from the city seal, which will continue to be used for formal and legal purposes. The logo will be featured on communications, signage, and public-facing materials, such as street signs and city cars.

“This is just the beginning of this process,” Sakbun said. “Of course, we are going to update the street signs and some of the cars. But the main project is that we are updating the website. So digital marketing and our digital presence is something that a lot of Hoosiers and people from Illinois and Kentucky see when they visit Terre Haute. So we wanted to offer that fresh start.”

The new logo incorporates blues and yellows, consistent with the Terre Haute flag and other city initiatives. It prominently features the steeple of the Vigo County Courthouse, a landmark of the city, and includes a basketball silhouette to highlight the impact of sports in Terre Haute. The logo’s tagline, “Meet us at the crossroads,” represents the city’s historic highway intersections.

We’re always in the content game here at Globe Schools. But Thursday took it to another level.

With every spring MIAA tournament underway, plus the divisional track championships, we had you blanketed with previews, coverage, roundups, and more.

It started this morning with Michael Silverman’s look at the challenges of coaching in this era. Give it a read and weigh in via the comments.

Then we published five playoff primers dissecting the favorites, sleepers, players to watch, longest road trips, and best matchups in the boys’ volleyball, boys’ lacrosse, girls’ lacrosse, baseball, and softball tournaments.

In the afternoon, Globe correspondents Matty Wasserman and Aiden Barker were dispatched to the first day of the Division 1 and Division 2 track and field championships.

As the evening rolled around, it was all about the playoff action. The baseball game of the night was in Triton, where the Vikings appeared to knot the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the seventh on a home run, but a successful appeal left two-time defending state champion Oakmont advancing. Read about that game and peruse the rest of our playoff roundups:

Now, onto the highlights.

1. Milestones

Before we get to some highlights from the end of the regular season, on Thursday North Andover’s Isa Robinson netted her 100th career goal in a 16-5 Division 1 first-round win over Barnstable.

Earlier, Winchester junior Ryan Martin became the school’s all-time leading goal scorer, surpassing Jake Mabardy’s mark of 151 goals.

Newburyport senior Reese Bromby became the program’s all-time leading scorer with 263 goals, moving past Molly Rose Kearney’s total of 261, set in 2018. Bromby is fourth in Clippers history with 324 points, six behind Lilly Pons (’24) for third.

In boys’ volleyball, Braintree senior Deon Li surpassed 1,000 career assists last week and Norton junior outside hitter Andrew Strojny was named American Volleyball Coaches Association Player of the Week for May 12-18 after posting 86 kills, 31 digs, 6 aces, and 3 blocks.

Walkoff wins

West Bridgewater’s Allie Edgerly laid down a suicide squeeze bunt with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh and Haylee Krakowski raced home for a 6-5 win over Old Colony in the preliminary round of the Division 4 tournament.

In the Division 5 baseball preliminary round, No. 29 Hull walked off Avon, 4-3, on Logan Griffin’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.

2. Going, going, gone

It wasn’t a big day for offensive fireworks, and we already read about Nick Bonasera’s would-be blast for Triton.

Mohawk Trail got a trio of homers from Bella Brown Stratton, Sadie Wilcox, and Riley Dyer, Milton’s Victoria Fish sent one out against Masconomet, and Will Ferguson launched one for Millis in a 2-1 win over Madison Park.

Daly was a unanimous All-Big East first team selection after leading the Huskies with 103 draw controls and finishing her career fourth in program history with 151 draw controls.

Joson Sanon, a Fall River native who played one season at Durfee before transferring to Vermont Academy, has withdrawn from the NBA Draft process, according to the New York Post, and will spend his sophomore season at St. John’s, where he transferred to after one season at Arizona State.
