Senior Dylan Hovanec has 25 wins, followed by freshman Landon Huffman’s 20.With 12 straight District 5 Class 2A dual-meet tournament championships under its belt, the Chestnut Ridge High School wrestling team is primed to remain the king of the jungle Saturday.Meyersdale sophomore Cooper Porter has a 32-7 record.Somerset is loaded at the two heaviest weight classes. Seniors Zane Hagans (215) and Rowan Holmes (285) are 26-8 and 31-1, respectively. Hagans, a three-time District 5 individual champion, is an NCAA Division II Walsh University baseball commit. Hagans is 111-31 over his career. Holmes, who has 22 pins this season, has signed to wrestle at Lehigh University. Holmes, who is 137-22 over his career, has earned two PIAA medals.Conemaugh Township sophomore Carter Christ is 28-2.Berlin Brothersvalley junior Braden Durst, a Bloomsburg commit, is 25-8. Freshman Carter Durst has 22 victories, and junior Seth Kimmel has 20.

Chestnut Ridge (10-2) awaits either Conemaugh Township or Meyersdale at 1 p.m. in a semifinal. No. 2 seed Everett (14-2) battles the winner between Berlin Brothersvalley and Somerset.Freshman Caleb Sines has 27 wins, and sophomore Brennan Schardt has 25 triumphs.In two first-round matches, sixth-seeded Somerset (3-5) takes on No. 3 seed Berlin Brothersvalley (5-1), and fourth-seeded Conemaugh Township (7-13) faces No. 5 seed Meyersdale (6-14) at 11 a.m.The final is tentatively scheduled for 3 p.m.The top six teams in the district will battle for the District 5 title inside Chestnut Ridge High School’s gymnasium.Chestnut Ridge beat Northern Bedford County 54-19 for the 2024 crown. Chestnut Ridge senior Easton Mull is 32-5 with 150 career wins. The Clarion signee finished fourth at the PIAA championships in 2024. Junior Dominic Deputy is 35-2 with a 124-7 career mark.Burrell, Derry Area, McGuffey and Quaker Valley are the final four teams left in District 7.The District 5 champion will host the District 7 runner-up Tuesday in the first round of the PIAA tournament. The eight quarterfinalists will advance to Altoona Fieldhouse Feb. 7 and 8.
