“This time of year definitely has the best aromas, and it’s a lot of effort condensed into approximately 72 hours as we shift from the fall market to the tree market, requiring everyone to pitch in. Once it’s all set up, there’s truly no better moment at Capitol Market,” Osborne mentioned during an interview with Metro News affiliate WMOV Radio in Ravenswood.

Kent Leonhardt, also speaking with WMOV Radio, expressed that winter is a lovely season.

“It’s a wonderful time of year, with everyone moving past the recent election. People were quite anxious about a lot of issues, and now we’re gearing up for the celebrations,” Leonhardt remarked.

Osborne indicated that the market aims to support local Christmas tree farms but faced challenges this year due to the drought that impacted the state.

“We strive to support the farmers who have been valuable to us and the community for an extended period; things are improving,” Osborne noted. “The recent years have been extremely tough, particularly coming out of COVID and dealing with a significant drought this year.”

He stated that due to the drought, they had to limit both the variety of species and the quantity available.

Leonhardt discussed the various options available for obtaining a Christmas tree this year.

“There are numerous Christmas tree farms throughout West Virginia, some offer cut-your-own options while others will cut one for you,” Leonhardt stated. “If you plan to visit the Market, it’s best to purchase it now so you can place it in water and ensure it lasts longer through the season.”

He added that for those interested in locating the farms, a list is available from the Department of Agriculture here.
