Delaware Valley and Abington Heights, the two programs to most recently capture championships, aim to reach the title match as the District 2 Class 3A boys volleyball tournament continues Tuesday.

Both will compete in a semifinal doubleheader at Delaware Valley, which earned the No. 1 seed based on the power rating standings.

Second-seeded Abington Heights, which won the championship in 2022, plays No. 3 Wilkes-Barre Area at 5 p.m. in the first match. Thirty minutes after the conclusion of the first semifinal, No. 4 Wyoming Valley West battles top-seeded Delaware Valley, the defending two-time champions.

The winners advance to the final Thursday at 5 p.m. at Scranton High School. The District 2 Class 2A championship match between Wyoming Valley Conference rivals Crestwood and undefeated Holy Redeemer follows in the second match of the doubleheader.

Abington Heights (13-4) won the Lackawanna League championship, and reached the semifinals with a 3-1 win over No. 7 Hazleton Area last week.

Shawn Theodore led the attack with 10 kills and eight digs, while Ryan Horutz had seven kills and had 25 assists. Nolan Moore added nine digs and six kills.

This season, Theodore fueled Abington Heights and leads the team with 161 kills. Shane Brower has 133, and Moore has 108.

Chris Cummins has 165 digs, and Horutz has 415 assists.

Wilkes-Barre Area (11-4) defeated No. 6 Scranton, 3-0, in the quarterfinals last week. Tijan Njai had nine digs and 28 assists, Reylie Ramirez had three aces and 10 kills and Joseph Rea had 14 service points and 15 digs for the Wolfpack.

Ramirez has 100 kills, and Njai has 353 assists this season.

In a quarterfinal match, Wyoming Valley West (6-7) defeated West Scranton, 3-1. Zabwon Welch leads the Spartans with more than 80 kills, and Carlos Tecoti has more than 240 assists.

Delaware Valley (9-3) received a bye into the semifinals as the No. 1 seed.

Luke Peereboom leads the Warriors with 143 kills and 22 blocks. Gino Gualandi has 140 kills, and Eric Choi has 369 assists.

Class 2A

Holy Redeemer (18-0) powered into Thursday’s championship final. The Royals swept No. 8 Dallas in the quarterfinals and fourth-seeded Berwick in the semifinals. Josh Rocha has 844 kills in 81 sets this season to lead the fifth-ranked team in the state, according to a poll by the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association.

Crestwood (14-3) beat No. 7 Valley View, 3-0, and earned a hard-fought win over No. 3 Western Wayne, 3-2, in the semifinals. JJ Stec has 364 kills in 68 sets for the Comets.

Holy Redeemer won the regular-season matchup, 3-0.
