During their yearly presentation evening, charity fundraisers presented cheques amounting to £11,500 to various community groups.
A total of 18 organizations benefitted from the funds at this gathering hosted by Barnard Castle charity The Clique held at the Workingmen’s Club in town.
Matthew Croom, the group’s chairman, stated: “We continued our support for all our usual sports teams and clubs, but we also introduced two new groups – the Taekwondo Club and Middleton Rainbows, which we will assist yearly from now on.
“We distributed over £11,500, and together with our fleet of mobility scooters and other fantastic causes we’ve supported in 2024, The Clique has contributed nearly £19,000 in total.
“This all stems from the kindness of our incredible community. Their ongoing support has allowed us to keep going for all these years.”
Cheques of £500 each were given to Barnard Castle Band, Teesdale Special Olympics, Middleton and Teesdale Silver Band, Middleton-in-Teesdale Cricket Club, Tiger Sharks, Staindrop Scouts, Raby Cricket Club, Barnard Castle Scouts, Middleton Rainbows, Taekwondo Club, as well as Barnard Castle’s golf, football, table tennis, boxing, cricket, and rugby clubs.
Teesdale Opportunities for Disabled Youngsters and the Great North Air Ambulance received significant cheques worth £1,500.
The volunteer organization, which raises funds all year round through various events like their highly favored It’s a Knockout event, is planning something a bit different for 2025.
Mr. Croom elaborated: “Next year will celebrate the 50th anniversary of our unique charity. We are planning a large family-friendly day featuring live music, food stalls, and entertainment for children, providing something special in return for all the support we’ve received.
“The specific details are still in the works, but I can assure you it will be a fantastic value for money event on Saturday, August 9, at the rugby pitches.”
