ROSEBURG, Ore. — Big nights from Davis graduate Jose Brown and former Zillah standout Clay Delp couldn’t quite propel Yakima Valley to an upset of No. 1 Green River Friday night.

The Yaks lost 84-77 despite 29 points and 10 rebounds for Brown to go along with 16 points and six assists for Delp. The two guards combined to shoot 8-of-11 from 3-point range, but their teammates struggled from beyond the arc, finishing 2-of-23.

YVC still managed to erase a 13-point deficit and even took a brief lead on West Valley grad Jaxson Goldsmith’s only 3-pointer of the game. But Green River took control again thanks to a 7-0 run and the Yaks couldn’t recover in their second straight loss.

Yakima Valley (5-3) will conclude its trip to Oregon against host Umpqua Saturday afternoon.

YVC win streak ends

An 82-57 loss to Skagit Valley ended Yakima Valley’s three-game winning streak Friday night at Sherar Gym.

Madisen King scored a team-high 20 points for the Yaks and Zillah’s Brynn Widner added an efficient 16 points and nine rebounds on 4-of-6 shooting from the field. Yakima Valley (5-4) will host South Puget Sound in the final game of this week’s NWAC Crossover Saturday afternoon.
