MOULTRIE – The Colquitt County flag football team, coming off convincing victories in the first and second rounds, will head to Loganville on Monday to compete against Grayson in a quarterfinal matchup.
The Lady Packers, boasting an 18-6 record and currently ranked No. 6 in Division 4 by MaxPreps, have marked a significant program achievement with their wins over Kell and Mill Creek on Thursday.
In their inaugural season last year, Colquitt triumphed in their first playoff match against Centennial, but were subsequently knocked out by McEachern.
Having secured a spot in the quarterfinals, the Lady Packers are now aiming to reach their first Final Four.
They will embark on a journey exceeding 200 miles to take on a formidable Grayson team, which stands at 20-5 and recently defeated Marietta 21-0 and South Forsyth 14-7 at home last Thursday.
Even though both Colquitt County and No. 8-ranked Grayson are area champions, Grayson won the coin toss and will host the quarterfinal clash.
The Lady Rams are entering their fifth season of flag football and were last year’s Area 7 champions.
Unfortunately, they faced an upset in the first round, falling to West Forsyth, the No. 4 team from Area 6.
This season, Grayson has bounced back, winning all six of its Area 4 contests and remaining undefeated at home with a record of 9-0.
The Lady Rams are currently on a 12-game winning streak and have allowed just over seven points per game this season.
The Lady Packers have claimed victory in eight of their last nine matches and exhibited a strong defensive performance in their 26-0 defeat of Kell and a 14-0 shutout against Mill Creek on Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium.
Colquitt’s offense is spearheaded by senior runners and receivers Ta’Meria Williams, Caylnn Singletary, and Amareyia Knighton, along with quarterback Mashayla Davis.
Williams, Singletary, and Knighton also play pivotal roles in the team’s flag-pulling and pass-intercepting defense.
The victor of the Colquitt County-Grayson battle will move on to the Final Four to face the winner of the contest between the unbeaten and No. 1-ranked McEachern and No. 9-ranked Central Gwinnett.
The state championship game is set to take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Colquitt stands as the only remaining Area 1 team in the Division 4 playoffs.
Area runner-up Lowndes secured a 34-12 win over North Cobb in their first game at home on Friday, but was subsequently eliminated with a 7-0 loss to Greater Atlanta Christian School.
No. 3 Thomas County Central also progressed in their opener, defeating Etowah 14-7.
However, the Lady Jackets could not keep pace with Paulding County and suffered a 33-12 defeat.
Valdosta was knocked out in its playoff opener, losing 6-0 to Cherokee.
