“WHAT TO LOOK FOR” AT IMS:

Palou Eyes IMS Three-peat: Alex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing has won three of 2025’s first four races and leads the NTT INDYCAR SERIES points standings by 60 points. He’s also won the past two Sonsio Grands Prix. Palou could become the first driver since Josef Newgarden won three straight races at World Wide Technology Raceway from 2020-2022. Among tracks on the current NTT INDYCAR SERIES schedule, three in a row has only been accomplished four other times.

Bobby Rahal won four in a row at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca (1984-87), Al Unser Jr. won four in a row at Long Beach (1988-91) Michael Andretti won three straight at Portland (1990-1992) and Sebastien Bourdais won three in a row at Long Beach (2005-07).

Penske’s Power Play: Roger Penske may be the owner of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but IMS has long been a Team Penske playground, and that includes races on the road course. Led by Will Power’s five race wins, Roger Penske’s drivers have won eight times on this circuit, including two wins from Simon Pagenaud (2016, 2019) and another from Josef Newgarden (2020).
NTT INDYCAR SERIES Notes:

The Sonsio Grand Prix will be the 17th INDYCAR SERIES event conducted on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. Active race winners expected to compete are Alex Palou, Alexander Rossi, Colton Herta, Rinus VeeKay, Scott Dixon, Josef Newgarden and Will Power.

Four drivers have competed in every INDYCAR SERIES race on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course – Scott Dixon, Josef Newgarden, Will Power and Graham Rahal. All are entered this weekend.
Team Penske has eight wins on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020-Race 2, 2020-Race 3, 2021-Race 2). Chip Ganassi has four wins – with Scott Dixon in 2020-Race 1 and 2023-Race 2 and Alex Palou in 2023-Race 1 and 2024.

Andretti Autosport and Ed Carpenter Racing are the only other teams to win at the track. Andretti Autosport won the Sonsio Grand Prix with Colton Herta in May 2022 and Gallagher Grand Prix with Alexander Rossi in August 2022, while Ed Carpenter Racing won in 2021-Race 1 with Rinus VeeKay.

Three NTT INDYCAR SERIES Rookie of the Year contenders – Jacob Abel, Louis Foster and Robert Shwartzman – are entered and will race an NTT INDYCAR SERIES car on the IMS road course for the first time alongside veteran driver Nolan Siegel. Milestones: Scott Dixon will attempt to make his 344th consecutive start, extending his INDYCAR SERIES record.
INDY NXT by Firestone Notes:

INDY NXT by Firestone will conduct a doubleheader weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend with a pair of 35-lap races. Dennis Hauger continued his dominating season scoring his second straight win on May 4 at Barber Motorsports Park and sits atop the point standings.

Juan Manuel Correa will make his INDY NXT debut in the first of several starts this season with HMD Motorsports. The American / Ecuadorian driver has raced in FIA Formula 3 and Formula 2 as well as the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Rolex 24 at Daytona. Correa demonstrated remarkable resilience, particularly after recovering from a life-threatening crash in 2019. His recovery and return to racing were a testament to his grit and determination.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the home race for second-year driver Jack William Miller, the son of former INDYCAR SERIES competitor Dr. Jack Miller. The younger Miller, who hails from Indianapolis and attends IU Indianapolis, competes for ABEL Motorsport with Miller Vinatieri Motorsports – a team co-owned by Dr. Jack Miller and former Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri.

Group qualifying will decide the starting grids on during the Indianapolis Grand Prix doubleheader. Based on the best lap times from the practice session immediately preceding qualifying, the fastest driver in that session will choose which group will compete in the first of the two qualifying segments.

With 12 minutes allotted for each group (with a guarantee of one timed lap), the fastest driver between the two sessions will be awarded the Race 1 pole position with the drivers who finished behind that driver, in order and in that group, occupying the odd-numbered starting positions (3, 5, 7, etc.) for the race and the drivers who finished in order from the other group occupying the even-numbered starting positions (2, 4, 6, etc.).

The grid for the second race will be determined by each drivers’ second fastest lap, with drivers who finished behind the polesitter, in order and in that group, occupying the odd-numbered starting positions (3, 5, 7, etc.) for the race and the drivers who finished in order from the other group occupying the even-numbered starting positions (2, 4, 6, etc.). One driver and entrant championship point will be awarded to the fastest car in each qualifying group for each race.

CONCORD, N.C. – Wait, NASCAR heads to another 1.5-mile track? Sign us up!

After competing at Texas Motor Speedway, stock car racing’s biggest show heads to Kansas Speedway this weekend. And Hendrick Motorsports will look to find victory lane once again.

Both Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott will look to Sunday as a chance to win again at Kansas. Larson was victorious in a photo finish last spring and also claimed victory there in 2021, his first season with Hendrick Motorsports. Elliott’s triumph came in 2018.

While they have yet to win at the 1.5-mile circuit, William Byron’s eight top-10 results and Alex Bowman’s 10 should put the field on alert. Both drivers have come narrowly close to victory lane in recent memory.

Something’s cooking in the NASCAR’s bowtie camp, and it might hit the track in 2026.

Rumors are heating up that Chevrolet is working on an updated Camaro body for the NASCAR Cup Series for 2026. According to several sources, including @NASCARRumorNostalgia on Instagram, which has a strong track record for accuracy, the current ZL1 is getting a facelift for 2026, not a full replacement.

This would be a smart move for Chevy especially since the street Camaro went out of production at the end of 2023. But the Camaro ZL1 lives on in NASCAR — sort of. While the silhouette is the same, Chevy stripped the “Camaro” branding from its Cup cars starting in 2025. For example, William Byron’s №24 ride from Hendrick Motorsports now has “Chevrolet” across the back of the car, no “Camaro” in sight.

I think they’re sweeping up the confetti in Daytona’s Victory Lane and here we are, after Sunday, a third of the way through NASCAR’s Cup Series schedule.

And this particular 2025 milepost is pretty much smack-dab in the middle of the U.S. of A., in the Kansas City you’ll find west of the river, in Kansas — not the K.C. with the Chiefs and Arrowhead Stadium, but the Kansas City with Legends Field and the Kansas City Monarchs of the independent American Association of Professional Baseball.

And not to say the area around Kansas Speedway has been NASCARized, but you’ll also find a Bob Evans, Bass Pro and Great Wolf Lodge Water Park.

This weekend, the Xfinity teams get a well-earned breather after racing 12 straight weekends to start the year. That’s a first for the Saturday guys.

But it’s still a tripleheader weekend, with the ARCA Series joining the Truck Series as a preliminary for Sunday’s main event, which will have to work hard to match last spring’s Kansas race. They had to go three numbers right of the decimal before calling Kyle Larson a winner.

It made Ross Chastain’s victory over William Byron last fall, by nearly four tenths of a second, look like a rout.

You can watch it all this weekend and here’s how.

Friday: ARCA race at Kansas, and Tide for the cleanup

8 p.m.: ARCA Series, Tide 150 (FS1).

Saturday: A busy day at Kansas for Truck Series, Cup Series

2:05 p.m.: Truck Series practice (FS2).

3:10 p.m.: Truck Series qualifying (FS2).

4:30 p.m.: Cup Series practice (Prime).

5:40 p.m.: Cup Series qualifying (Prime).

7:30 p.m.: Truck Series, Heart of Health Care 200 (FS1).

Sunday: Race 12 of NASCAR’s 2025 Cup Series season

3 p.m.: Cup Series, Advent Health 400 (FS1).

The following was what was supposed to be a Power Hour podcast from the show floor at AIMExpo. But no good deed goes unpunished, and the editor forgot how to work his new cordless microphones. Apparently, there’s a little symbol of a speaker with a strike through it that means mute. And this editor didn’t bring his glasses. So we didn’t get decent audio for the podcast. However, the conversation with Rob Greenwald, our resident F&I guru, and Alex Reyes, who is the business manager for Broward Motorsports of Palm Beach, was very insightful, so we were able to transcribe enough of it for this Q&A.

Rob Greenwald (left) and Alex Reyes from Broward Motorsports joined us at our booth at AIMExpo.

PSB: What does Rob Greenwald bring to Broward Motorsports?

ALEX REYES: Rob’s contributions are truly unique. He has extensive experience as a vendor, but what sets him apart is his ability to transition from a vendor role to that of a manager and coach. That’s what I appreciate about him — he knows how to motivate people and push the right buttons. Over the years, our relationship has evolved into a genuine friendship. He challenges us, and I like that. As someone with a growth mindset, I constantly strive to improve and innovate, and Rob never holds back. He’s a true coach, always pushing people — especially F&I managers — to go the extra mile.

PSB: Rob, you’ve been in this business for 40 years. Did you get a gold watch yet?

ROB GREENWALD: No one gives me anything! (Laughs) Yamaha did give me a watch for winning a championship, though — I’ve got a couple of those. But I do what I do because I love it. My passion lies in training, development, and finance and insurance is my specialty, and I have excelled in the ever-evolving retail world.

The industry has changed dramatically over the past three decades. Those who’ve been around for a while remember the days of floppy disks, green-screen computers, and basic F&I processes. Back then, we had very few products to sell, and our approach was completely different. Watching this industry evolve and being part of that transformation is something I take pride in.

I was there at the beginning when Ed Lemko talked about modeling the F&I department after the car business in the early ’90s. At the time, I was already in the auto industry and excelling as a trainer, but I didn’t love it. I was also pursuing my racing career when I saw an opportunity in the powersports sector. That passion led me here, and 30 years later, I’m still one of the leading voices in training and innovation.

PSB: Fast forward to today — where are we now? What has changed in the F&I segment for powersports in recent years?

GREENWALD: One of the biggest changes has been in technology. The products and services we offer today are leaps ahead of what was available in the ’90s and early 2000s. Consumer behavior has shifted, and the technology we use to deliver these services has created more opportunities to drive revenue and serve our customers effectively. However, not all dealers are capitalizing on these advancements. I still see only a handful of dealerships truly excelling in finance and insurance.

PSB: Alex, what do you see? How long have you been with Broward Motorsports?

ALEX REYES: I’ve been with Broward for 12 years — nowhere near Rob’s 30! (Laughs) When he started, I was still a kid.

We live in an instant-gratification culture, which makes it crucial to lead with knowledge. Historically, the F&I department has struggled with reputation issues. Many customers haven’t had positive experiences, but in a community-driven business like this, it’s vital to build lasting relationships, not just make sales.

I teach F&I managers to sell the ownership experience rather than just a machine. Customers aren’t buying a motorcycle or a boat — they’re investing in fun and lifestyle. The machine is simply the means to achieve that. When we present products that enhance their ownership experience — whether through maintenance plans or extended warranties — it adds real value.

Unfortunately, the automotive industry often pushes unnecessary products into powersports. But when we genuinely prioritize the customer’s needs, we help them save money and maximize their enjoyment. People will gladly spend when they recognize value, but if you focus solely on profits, you risk cutting corners and losing trust.

PSB: Some automotive dealerships take good care of their customers, too — don’t you think?

GREENWALD: I’ll play devil’s advocate here. One of the biggest mistakes I see in powersports is the tendency to overwhelm customers with too many products. Some dealerships take an approach where they just throw a bunch of options at buyers, hoping something sticks. The right strategy is to focus on a core selection of high-quality products — prepaid maintenance plans, extended protections, and warranty programs. Mechanical failure is the top reason for repossessions in powersports. People often can’t afford unexpected repairs, and unlike cars, motorcycles and boats aren’t necessarily essential for getting to work. That’s why I emphasize selling real value, not gimmicks. In the past, we didn’t have many F&I products. GAP coverage didn’t even exist in powersports until the late ’90s or early 2000s. Today, we have incredible offerings, but some dealerships still push unnecessary add-ons like fabric protection, just because that’s common in automotive.

ALEX REYES: I agree — it’s all about understanding the customer. Instead of bombarding them with unnecessary products, dealerships should conduct proper needs assessments. That way, we can tailor recommendations and ensure customers are making informed decisions. The key is to focus on solutions that genuinely enhance their ownership experience, rather than just throwing extras onto the deal.
