BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Recently removed from the 50-year milestone of Cal State Bakersfield Athletics, the Roadrunners reached another major milestone at the NCAA Wrestling Championships this past March. When 197-pounder AJ Ferrari placed third and earned All-American honors for Bakersfield, he became the 1,000th All-American in the history of CSUB Athletics.

“For more than 50 years, CSUB student-athletes have made our university proud through a remarkable legacy of athletic achievement,” said Kyle Conder, Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics at CSUB. “Reaching the milestone of 1,000 All-Americans in program history reflects the unwavering spirit and grit of our `Runners across generations. As we celebrate this historic honor, we look forward to fulfilling our vision of Pursuing Championships and Graduating Leaders by nurturing future Roadrunners to become All-Americans.”

Between NCAA Division I and Division II, `Runner student-athletes have been collecting All-American honors for more than 50 years. The first All-American honors in program history were earned by a trio of `Runners at the 1974 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships: Dick Molina, Ed Maze, and Bill Kalivas.

The men’s track & field team picked up its first All-American nod in 1975 when triple jumper Andre Jackson placed fifth at the NCAA Championships. That performance started a streak of 32 consecutive years with at least one All-American from the `Runner track & field program.

The Cal State Bakersfield women got on the board when the tennis team garnered three All-American honors in 1977. Lisa Ropfogel earned a nod in both singles play as well as alongside her doubles partner, Stacy Evans.
