Following the conclusion of the 2024 season with a record of 25-26, the Matadors have announced their schedule for 2025, with the season set to commence on February 6th.
CSUN is coming off a rather uninspired 2024 campaign after competing in the National Invitational Softball Classic in 2023. While the team achieved 25 victories in 2024, they finished 9-18 in Big West play and are eager to make an impact in 2025.
The Matadors will kick off the year on the road, facing an immediate challenge with a doubleheader against 2024 Mountain West Conference champion San Diego State and NCAA titleholders Oklahoma University.
CSUN will then continue their road journey to Utah after their games in San Diego. On the 8th, the Matadors will compete against IU Indy and Southern Utah before heading back to Northridge for Valentine’s Day weekend to take part in their traditional CSUN Matador Classic.
The Matadors will follow up with matches against Pacific and Seattle University over the weekend before heading on a California trip to Cathedral City the next weekend for the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.
CSUN plans to maintain non-conference competition into early March, including a game against Washington University on February 24th. They will then host the CSUN Champions Classic at the end of the month leading into March, ahead of the Big West beginning the next week.
Softball head coach Charlotte Morgan and CSUN are scheduled to kick off conference play at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on March 7th. After their contest against the Mustangs, the Matadors will return home to face Hawaii for their Big West home opener on the 14th.
In the midst of the conference schedule, the Matadors are set to take on the Bruins at UCLA on April 1st at Easton Stadium. This mid-season encounter will represent the fourth consecutive year CSUN has faced the Bruins, with the Matadors hoping for a victory after UCLA has dominated the previous three seasons.
After playing UCLA, CSUN will continue through Big West competition for the remainder of April into early May, concluding the regular season at home with a series against UC Santa Barbara on May 2nd.
This year, in contrast to prior seasons, the Big West will be adopting a tournament format for this year’s softball championship, with the top six teams vying for the conference crown in a double elimination setup.
The 2025 Big West Softball Championship will take place at Cal State Fullerton at Anderson Family Field, with the tournament scheduled from May 7th to 10th.
