Cub Tracks has no need to fear

The going is weird. Cub Tracks™ turned pro a long time ago. Cub Tracks™. Where the great ones run away.

Weird to be the underdog, but there you go. The team with the second-best record vs the the team with the best record in a heavyweight bout. No riff-raff. A stars-only event!

The Cubs traveled to Motown for what was sure to be a classic series. Cubs righty Ben Brown opposed the redoubtable lefty Tarik Skubal, the best pitcher in baseball™.

The Tigers’ starting lineup is full of ex-Cubs. Jávier Baez, of course, and Zach McKinstry, with Gleyber Torres rounding out the ex-Cubs contingent. Former Cub coach Anthony Iapoce is Detroit’s first-base coach.

Cubs coach Quintin Berry is a former Tiger. Carson Kelly and Matthew Boyd are also former Tigers. Gage Workman, a Tiger farmhand now a Mud Hen, was a Cub briefly earlier this year.

There were a lot of moving parts to that contest. Al of course has the details. Brown looked good. Skubal’s rep is deserved. Tight defense on both sides, super pitching. Tigers are great against the run and defend the vertical offense quite well. The Cubs hit a couple of balls that were retrieved before they could disappear over the fence. PCA had an oops. Should have kept going. I dunno why the late wave. Feh.

Skubal with 7.2 IP, 6 K, 1 ER. Brown with 7.0, 7K, 1 ER. Cubs bullpen gave up two solo homers. 3-1 Tigers. Alex Faust sounded like he made his bargain with Berry Gordy. Too much boosterism for a national broadcast.

MALIBU, Calif.  Pepperdine Athletics had seven student-athletes from three different programs earn College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District At-Large honors, as announced today by CSC.

The Waves who received recognition included beach volleyball’s Kate Clermont, Marley Johnson, McKenna Thomas and Deanie Woodruff; men’s volleyball’s Gabe Dyer and James Eadie; and water polo’s Dane Howell

The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Men’s and Women’s At-Large teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in competition and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program also separately recognizes at-large honorees in five divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, and the College Division.

The at-large program includes all NCAA sports that do not have their own sport-specific program eligible for athletes to be recognized. CSC has academic programs for soccer, women’s volleyball, football, basketball, swimming & diving, tennis, softball, baseball and track & field/cross country.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL

Kate Clermont (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) earned the at-large honor following her senior campaign after three straight seasons (2023-25) as a WCC All-Academic Team and All-WCC First Team honoree. Clermont achieved a 3.856 cumulative GPA across her four years as a liberal studies for education major at Pepperdine. She logged a 24-9 record at the No. 1 position for the Waves this past season alongside Thomas while moving into second place overall in program career pair wins with 58 and fifth in all-time wins with 92.

Marley Johnson (Stuart, Fla.) joined the Waves as a graduate student ahead of the 2025 season and achieved a 4.0 GPA while obtaining her master’s in global business. Johnson amassed 13 victories on the sand this past season competing primarily at the No. 4 position.

McKenna Thomas (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) capped her career as a three-time WCC All-Academic and All-WCC First Team selection. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology in three years before enrolling in the university’s master’s in business program, where she maintained a 4.0 GPA. Thomas also ranks second in career pair wins (58, alongside Clermont) and fourth in total wins (94) in program history.

Deanie Woodruff (Point Loma, Calif.) came to the Waves as a transfer from Arizona State ahead of the 2025 season and achieved a 3.854 GPA in the biology program in her first year at Pepperdine. During her redshirt freshman campaign, Woodruff totaled 15 wins for the Waves with 11 coming on court four as she also tabbed a victory in the WCC Tournament.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Gabe Dyer (San Clemente, Calif.) maintained a 3.85 GPA during his graduate year in the real estate program at Pepperdine after transferring from UC San Diego. As the team’s primary setter, Dyer helped lead the Waves to the NCAA Semifinals and ranked top-10 in the nation with 1,072 total assists.

James Eadie (Newport Beach, Calif.) holds a 3.592 cumulative GPA in the sport administration program at Pepperdine through three academic years. Eadie ranked fourth on the team in both kills (129) and points (184) during his redshirt sophomore season in 2025 which saw the Waves win the WCC Championship and reach the NCAA Semifinals.

WATER POLO

Dane Howell (Huntington Beach, Calif.) recorded a 3.671 cumulative GPA in the sociology program as a Wave after joining the program in 2023 from Orange Coast College. Howell posted 23 goals and nine assists to go along with nine steals as he recorded multiple goals in seven games for the Waves during his senior season. He is set to return to the pool in 2025 as a graduate student at Pepperdine with the Waves set to open the season at the Triton Invite in San Diego from Aug. 30-31.

Brag House Taps $1.5B NIL Market with Gen Z Platform Across 200 Colleges

Initiative unlocks new royalty-based income stream and expands platform utility for brands and users alike

NEW YORK, June 17, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Brag House Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: TBH) (“Brag House” or the “Company”), the media-tech platform at the intersection of gaming, college sports, and Gen Z engagement, last week unveiled plans to launch a secure digital asset platform as part of its Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) initiative supporting the Company’s broader monetization strategy by introducing new revenue streams, expanding Gen Z engagement, and strengthening its data-driven value proposition.

Building on its earlier announcement to explore digital NIL engagement models, the initiative leverages Brag House’s national footprint across 200+ NCAA campuses through its partnership with Learfield, enabling student-athletes to monetize personalized digital assets such as highlight reels, game-day passes, and authenticated collectibles. Brag House will retain transaction fees and recurring royalty revenue from secondary marketplace activity, while also capturing valuable user engagement and behavioral data.

“We’re laying the groundwork for a new digital economy built around Gen Z athletes and fans, ” said Lavell Juan Malloy II, CEO and Co-Founder of Brag House. “By combining NIL rights with authenticated digital assets, we’re offering scalable monetization while enhancing our ability to understand and serve our community. This platform introduces a repeatable, high-margin business model aligned with the surging NIL and digital ownership economies.”

Unlocking a Multi-Billion-Dollar Market Through a Scalable Revenue Model

As referenced in Brag House’s previous announcement, the NIL market is projected to grow to $1.5 billion by 2027. Brag House’s NIL platform targets a key gap in the market: 95% of NCAA athletes currently receive little to no NIL compensation.

Using a no-code interface, athletes will be able to mint and sell digital assets directly to fans while Brag House earns transaction fees on all primary sales and royalties on secondary trades. Fan-to-athlete commerce will be enabled by automated smart contract systems, with automated payments routed to athlete-controlled digital wallets. The Company is evaluating sustainable, next-gen digital platforms that offer low fees and reliable verification systems.

Initial monetization scenarios include:

  • Personalized collectibles with resale royalties
  • Digital access passes for live/virtual events
  • Loyalty integrations with brand partners and sponsors
  • Tiered fan experiences that reward long-term participation

Accelerating Brag House’s Strategic Flywheel

This platform aligns directly with Brag House’s four-phase strategic roadmap: build Gen Z community, scale B2B solutions, monetize engagement, and activate proprietary data. The NIL initiative further supports each of these goals by:

  • Increasing user retention through exclusive athlete-fan interaction
  • Creating brand sponsorship inventory around collectible campaigns
  • Enhancing the Company’s first-party behavioral data for Gen Z
  • Enabling subscription and membership cross-sell opportunities

“This initiative is not about chasing trends, it’s about capturing value,” added Malloy. “We’ve already proven our ability to engage Gen Z across gaming and college campuses. Now, we’re unlocking the next layer of monetization that expands our platform’s economic potential.”

Pilot Rollout in Late 2025

Brag House expects to launch initial NIL activations on select campuses later this year, in conjunction with branded loyalty campaigns and its Brag Gators Gauntlet Series. Full platform capabilities, including smart contract integration, athlete onboarding, and fan resale features, are anticipated to go live in early 2026.

About Brag House
Brag House is a leading media technology gaming platform dedicated to transforming casual college gaming into a vibrant, community-driven experience. By seamlessly merging gaming, social interaction, and cutting-edge technology, the Company provides an inclusive and engaging environment for casual gamers while enabling brands to authentically connect with the influential Gen Z demographic. Wagner College track & field head coach steps down after nearly 30 years with program

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — On Monday, Wagner College’s cross country/track and field program announced that longtime head coach, Joe Stasi, will officially be stepping down from his position after leading the team for 29 years.

Stasi helped transform Wagner into a consistently competitive program during his tenure on Grymes Hill, guiding his athletes to 12 NEC Championships, over 250 All-Conference selections and more than 110 school records.

One of Stasi’s crowning achievements as head coach came during the 2020–2021 seasons, when he led the Seahawk men to the NEC Triple Crown — capturing the 2020 indoor, 2021 cross country and 2021 outdoor titles — making Wagner the first program to accomplish the feat in the NEC since 2003.

But Wagner wasn’t always a force to be reckoned with considering the 2021 outdoor title was the first in program history for the men’s team. Stasi told the Advance/SILive that the beginning of his tenure was “a slow progression upward.”

“It’s been a process at Wagner. You can always look at the championships and the success that you had there, but I tell everyone that what’s kept me there were the student-athletes. I’ve had just a good group of student-athletes throughout the years,” Stasi said of what he’ll look back on most fondly.

To his point, it’s clear that the Wagner cross country/track program emphasized a wholistic collegeiate experience, as Stasi’s runners, jumpers and throwers achieved 13 NEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year recognitions during his stretch as head coach.

“The kids were always focused on and off the track,” Stasi said of his athletes being dedicated to achieving excellence in the classroom as well as in their running careers.

“There’s a lot of stuff that you have to deal with as a college coach, but the kids being very focused in the classroom and kept me there for a lot of years,” he went on.

In addition to preparing his athletes for success beyond graduation, Stasi continued to support those who pursued running after college — including Will Cuthbertson ’22, who went on to compete at the USATF Championships and the Olympic Trials.

“Coach Stasi has had a huge impact on the majority of my running career since graduating high school,” Cuthbertson said of the bond they share.

“He really got me to a place I needed to be in, and then he was super encouraging on me taking the next steps; he was also super helpful with me fundraising for an altitude training trip before going to USA’s. He’s just been one of my all around biggest supporters with running post-collegiately,” he went on.

Another Seahawk alum who ran under Stasi and has become a fixture in the Staten Island running community is Dominic Palermo ’24 — the recent runner-up at the SSG Ollis 5K and a key contributor to Wagner’s historic triple crown championship squad.

“Coach Stasi is one of the greatest coaches around,” Palermo said plainly.

“My favorite Stasi line will always be that ‘There’s no secrets to the sport;’ we knew what was expected of us every day and if we wanted to be great there were no shortcuts,” he continued.

Stasi’s impact also extends well beyond Wagner’s campus, as he helped mentor several coaches in the Staten Island running community — including Monsignor Farrell assistant Michael Ryan, former longtime St. Joseph Hill head coach JP Pablo and current Moore Catholic head coach Jason Paderon.

“The coaches on the Island are really phenomenal,” Stasi said of the borough’s running culture which he largely helped shape.

“I also ran on Staten Island when I was growing up; we wanted kids to know that the option was there to come to Wagner, but at the end of the day, I always wanted what was best for the borough’s athletes,” he humbly said of his positive feelings for the Island’s running scene as a whole.

Stasi doesn’t have any concrete plans to continue coaching elsewhere at the moment, as his full focus was to always “leave the team with a lot of talent and pass the baton onto the next person” who will guide the Seahawks’ track program.

Wagner Cross Country Head Coach, Joe Stasi

Wagner cross country head coach, Joe Stasi, was named the 2019 Northeast Conference (NEC) Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year

“I always wanted to leave on a good note. We’re leaving on top, and I’m glad I’m leaving the program in a strong position,” Stasi said following the women’s team’s victory at the 2025 Outdoor NEC Championships.

Whether he was guiding athletes to record-breaking times on the track, pushing them to succeed in the classroom, or supporting their goals beyond graduation, one thing is clear: Stasi’s successor will have big shoes to fill.

2027 Libero Pulelehua Laikona Commits to Nebraska Volleyball

Nebraska volleyball’s 2027 recruiting class continues to grow.

Pulelehua “Hua” Laikona has committed to the Huskers. She made the announcement on social media Tuesday.

“Mahalo Ke Akua! Thank you God you have been so good to me,” Laikona said. “I’m deeply blessed, truly humbled, and extremely grateful to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Nebraska.”

The 5-foot-8 libero is ranked No. 59 overall by PrepVolleyball and No. 103 by PrepDig. She plays for the same club team, Arizona Storm, as fellow Husker commit Kendall Omoruyi and Nebraska freshmen Teraya Sigler and Kenna Cogill.

While she will be a libero at the next level, Laikona is an outside hitter for Mesa High School. As a sophomore, she averaged 3.3 kills per set on .289 hitting.

Nebraska has been a libero and defensive specialist factory of late. Lexi Rodriguez just graduated and is currently playing professionally after breaking Olympian Justine Wong-Orantes’ all-time digs record. The cupboard is far from bare, though, as new coach Dani Busboom Kelly has walked into an impressive room of “littles”.

“It’s one of the deepest groups of liberos I’ve ever coached,” Busboom Kelly said after the Husker Games match against Kansas.

Besides the battle between Laney Choboy and Olivia Mauch for the libero spot this season, Nebraska also has senior Maisie Boesiger and freshman Keri Leimbach. No liberos are committed for the 2026 class.

Laikona is the third known commitment for Nebraska’s 2027 class. She is joined by middle blocker Omoruyi and setter Malorie Boesiger.

Nebraska is coming off of a 33-3 season in which the Huskers finished as co-Big Ten Champions and made the national semifinals. Just a few months ago, head coach John Cook retired and was promptly replaced by former Husker Dani Busboom Kelly.
