D.J. Sokol Arena Improvements to be Unveiled at Creighton’s Blue/White Scrimmage
OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton Volleyball fans who take in tomorrow’s Blue/White exhibition match will be among the first to see numerous improvements made to D.J. Sokol Arena inside the Wayne and Eileen Ryan Athletic Center up close, as more than $1 million worth of improvements to enhance the fan and student-athlete experience have taken place during the off-season.
One of the most noticeable changes will the addition of two 11′ x 16′ digital video boards made by Daktronics, one each on the Southeast and Southwest walls.
The Don & Carmen Leahy Hall of Fame room on the third floor of the East side of the arena has been refurbished to a more modern look. The space has added larger flat screen TV’s, more high-top tables, a full-service bar and a premium meal option for those with access to the room. It’s also received a new paint job.
On the floor level on both the South and East sides, the courtside tables will be all digital. Those will allow for enhanced fan engagement, statistical displays or advertising opportunities.
Additionally, midcourt seats in the first four rows on both the East and West sides of the facility have been upgraded to a wider and more padded seat that should add comfortability. The improvements made by Hussey Seating Company are similar to the chairback seats being installed at Creighton’s new softball field that will debut next spring. The changes affect more than 10 percent of the D.J. Sokol Arena.
The changes are among the latest improvements made to D.J. Sokol Arena, which opened in 2009 as the home to Creighton Volleyball and Women’s Basketball. Other improvements in recent seasons have been a new lighting system, upgrades to the Jensen Lounge and an expanded scoreboard on the North wall.
