WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Thanks to the incredible leadership of loyal supporters, including a lead gift from Carl and Linda Tucker and their family, Wake Forest University will dedicate its new excellence center in their names on Tuesday, Jan. 21 prior to the Demon Deacons men’s basketball game against North Carolina inside Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The Tucker Family Student-Athlete Excellence Center will be the new home for Wake Forest Student-Athlete Services and Student-Athlete Development providing one space to promote the personal and professional development of Demon Deacon student-athletes. The center will include academic tutor spaces, meeting areas for seminars and career networking events, gathering areas for students for group project work and study sessions. Additionally, the Rovere Room has been completely upgraded with new technology and an operable partition that will allow flexible sizing of event and meeting space.
This project completes the 4th Quarter Drive in the Athletics quadrant of Wake Forest University’s Reynolda Campus that includes the McCreary Football Complex, McCreary Football Field House, Sutton Sports Performance Center, Shah Basketball Complex, Dr. Caryl Guth Women’s Basketball Clubhouse and Chris Paul Family Men’s Basketball Clubhouse.
The new Tucker Family Student-Athlete Excellence Center replaces the existing student-athlete services space that is located on the second floor of the Miller Center and was constructed in 2001. Private gifts totaling $4 million are completely funding this important enhancement.
Specifically on the Tucker Family Student-Athlete Excellence Center, this world-class facility includes:
- Overall – Over 14,000 Square Footage of renovated space.
- The new excellence center is now a more functional and collaborative destination for the personal and professional growth of Wake Forest student-athletes.
- This renovated space is located on the 2nd floor of the Miller Center, which was originally constructed in 2001.
- The Tucker Family Student-Athlete Excellence Center is just steps away from Budd Gymnasium, Shah Basketball Complex, Kentner Stadium and the Sutton Sports Performance Center to maximize efficiency and convenience for all student-athletes.
- Improvements include additional academic tutor spaces, meeting areas for seminars and career networking events, gathering areas for students for group project work and study sessions.
- The Rovere Room is now upgraded with an operable partition that will allow flexible sizing of event and meeting space.
Wake Forest Athletics partnered with Vannoy Construction as the contractor for the project and the architecture firm of Walter Robbs Architects, a Michael Graves Company, provided the design.
Additionally, construction of this world-class academic services space provided tremendous Value to Winston-Salem as twenty seven different sub contractors/trades worked on this project and approximately one hundred fifteen jobs were created. With that, 24 of the 27 contractors that worked on this project are located within a 35 mile radius of Wake Forest’s Reynolda campus.
