KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Denny Hamlin said Saturday that he remains “pretty confident” in the case brought by his 23XI Racing, co-owned by the veteran driver and retired NBA great Michael Jordan, and Front Row Motorsports against NASCAR alleging antitrust violations.

Hamlin spoke one day after a three-judge federal appellate panel indicated it might overturn an injunction that allows 23XI and Front Row to race as chartered teams, even as their lawsuit against the stock car series plays out in court.

“You know, they’re telling me kind of what’s going on. I didn’t get to hear it live or anything like that,” Hamlin said after qualifying 14th for Sunday’s race at Kansas Speedway. “But we’re overall pretty confident in our case.”

The teams filed the antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR on Oct. 2 in the Western District of North Carolina, arguing that the series bullied teams into signing charter agreements — essentially franchise deals — that make it difficult to compete financially.

Those were the only two holdouts of 15 charter-holding teams that refused to sign the agreements in September.

The most recent extension of the charters lasts until 2031, matching the current media rights deal. Perhaps the biggest benefit of them is that they guarantee 36 of the 40 spots available in each NASCAR race to teams that own them.

Overturning the injunction would leave 23XI and Front Row racing as “open teams,” meaning they would have to qualify at every Cup Series event. But there are only four open spots, and 23XI had four cars at Kansas this week and Front Row had one.

“You know, the judges haven’t made any kind of ruling,” Hamlin said, “so until they do, then we’re going to stay status quo.”

NASCAR attorney Chris Yates had argued the injunction, granted in December by U.S. District Judge Kenneth Bell, forced the series into an unwanted relationship with unwilling partners, and that it harms other teams because they earn less money. He also said that the teams should not have the benefits of the charter system they are suing to overturn.

“There’s no other place to compete,” countered Jeffrey Kessler, the attorney representing 23XI and Front Row, noting overturning the injunction would cause tremendous damage to the teams, potentially including the loss of drivers and sponsors.

“It will cause havoc to overturn this injunction in the middle of the season,” Kessler said.

There is a trial date set for December, and judge Steven Agee urged the sides to meet for mediation — previously ordered by a lower court — to attempt to resolve the dispute over the injunction. But that seems unlikely.

“We’re not going to rewrite the charter,” Yates told the judges.

Larson Doubles Down with Second Hendrick 1100 Attempt – Speedway Digest

Few feats in motorsports demand more grit, stamina and sheer determination than “The Double” – the daring attempt to race in both the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. Few feats in motorsports demand more grit, stamina and sheer determination than “The Double” – the daring attempt to race in both the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. Sunday, May 25, Hendrick Motorsports standout Kyle Larson will once again chase 1,100 miles, looking to conquer what the team has dubbed “The Hendrick 1100.”

Larson first attempted the challenge in 2024, but rain dampened the effort, delaying the start of the Indianapolis 500 and ultimately ending his chance at completing all 1,100 miles. This year, Larson returns hungrier than ever with eyes set on redemption and a place in motorsports history.

“I love to race. I love to compete in big events and I love to try new things to challenge myself,” said Larson. “I try to stay focused on making this the best experience I can and getting my car to drive the best it can while also enjoying the moment.”

RACING’S ULTIMATE TEST

Attempting the feat is more than just showing up. It’s a high-speed, high-stakes marathon that pushes drivers to the limit. From mastering two completely different race cars to navigating the travel from Indianapolis to Charlotte, here’s what makes the challenge such a rare and exciting pursuit:

Two Different Worlds: The day kicks off at the Brickyard with the Indianapolis 500 – open-wheel racing’s crown jewel – before the spotlight shifts to Charlotte Motor Speedway for NASCAR’s toughest test at the Coca-Cola 600 – the sport’s longest and most demanding race. Each event requires a vastly different approach from the precision and aerodynamics of an Indy car to the endurance and strategy required in a stock car.

Physical, Mental Stamina: Two races. One day. Covering 1,100 miles of racing in one day is no ordinary Sunday. It’s a full-day grind that tests the human body like few other athletic endeavors. From switching cars and teams to tight turnarounds, the challenge goes far beyond just racing laps.

Logistical Madness: With nearly 600 miles separating the two tracks, pulling off the Hendrick 1100 requires a flawless timeline. Helicopters, private jets and split-second coordination are essential to get the driver from track to track while practice, qualifying and media obligations fill the days leading up. While difficult, each inconvenience only makes the payoff event sweeter upon completion.

LEGENDS OF “THE DOUBLE”:

Over the years, only a handful of elite drivers have dared to take on the epic motorsports crossover. Here are the notable names of the bold drivers who chased the ultimate challenge.

John Andretti (1994): As the pioneer of “The Double,” Andretti became the first to try the challenge, finishing 10th at Indy before mechanical issues led to a 36th-place finish at the Coca-Cola 600.
Tony Stewart (1999, 2001): Stewart, the gold standard of “The Double”, In 2001, he finished sixth at the Indy 500 and third at the Coca-Cola 600, becoming the first driver to ever complete all 1,100 miles.
Robby Gordon (1997, 2000, 2002-2004): Gordon attempted the feat multiple times, with mixed results. His best effort came in 2002, completing both races and finishing eighth in Indy and 16th at Charlotte.
Kurt Busch (2014): In his only attempt, Busch impressed with a sixth-place finish at Indy but retired early from the Coca-Cola 600 due to engine failure.
Kyle Larson (2024): Larson reignited interest in “The Hendrick 1100” with his attempt last season. After an 18th-place finish at the Indy 500, his quest to complete the full 1,100 miles fell short after rain brought the NASCAR affair to an early conclusion. This year, he’s back with experience and unfinished business.

Larson Doubles Down

With the full force of Hendrick Motorsports behind him and a renewed drive to finish what he started, Larson is all-in on 2025. No stranger to Charlotte Motor Speedway with one 600 win and two ROVAL™ victories, Larson knows what it takes to win at America’s Home for Racing.

“Last year wasn’t as fun and exciting as people might think,” said Larson. “I was super bummed because I knew I wasn’t going to be able to race in both. I didn’t get to enjoy the pre-race stuff or anything, but hopefully this year it goes better with the weather and I can just enjoy the whole experience.”

There’s no way to sugarcoat it, the 2025 NASCAR season has been a disappointment for former Cup Series champion Chase Elliott.

Elliott hasn’t recorded a win yet for Hendrick Motorsports this season. He had a legitimate chance to claim first place last weekend at Kansas Speedway, but a brutal turn of events left him outside of the top 10 when the dust settled.

Despite coming up short at Kansas, the No. 9 team received love from Hendrick Motorsports vice president of competition Chad Knaus.

“It’s unfortunate that issue happened today because I think we’d be sitting here with them easily in the top five with the pace that they had. But it only takes one hiccup and it can derail your day,” Knaus said. “So we’ve got to keep working on those things. But as long as they continue to bring good race cars and fast race cars and execute at a high level, they’re going to be where we need them.”

With the NASCAR All-Star Race set for this weekend, Hendrick Motorsports has made a change to Elliott’s team. Whether or not it’ll lead to better results is a bit unclear though.

Meet the newest brand ambassador for ELEMIS, Aston Martin’s Head of F1 Academy Jessica Hawkins.

Luxury skincare brand ELEMIS previously inked a deal with Aston Martin earlier in 2025, becoming the first skincare company to sponsor an F1 team. Notably, this partnership represents much more than a logo on the car. With Hawkins officially on board — a seasoned racer and one of motorsport’s most influential female figures — this deal points to a long-term commitment from a less traditional F1 team or driver sponsor.

“10 years ago this definitely wouldn’t have happened,” Hawkins told Motorsport.com after the Aston Martin deal was announced. “We’ve come so far in recent years … it means so much to have a company like ELEMIS believe in me, and the visibility it’s creating is incredible.”

Being less known in motorsports doesn’t mean ELEMIS isn’t already making its mark on the paddock so far this year, with visible brand activations at key Grand Prix, including a ‘first-of-its-kind spa experience on board the Aston Martin Aramco luxury yacht’ at the upcoming Monaco GP.

“I think we align very well on everything that we stand for,” Hawkins said. “We’re two British brands, and very passionate about similar things. They’re obviously a huge company and I’m so proud to be one of their ambassadors.”

In addition to the team-level sponsorship, ELEMIS will also support Hawkins directly as she competes in the 2025 GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup with Comtoyou Racing. “The simple answer is I wouldn’t be racing without [sponsorship],” Hawkins said. “It’s very expensive, and I come from a normal family who don’t have the funds to support that.”

In fact, the thought of receiving a funding from a company within the beauty space would have been inconceivable until very recently, when the likes of Charlotte Tilbury became a founding partner of F1 Academy and e.l.f. Cosmetics began blazing a unique trail in American motorsports.

And the deal isn’t just about motorsport. “We want to empower women outside of motorsport as well. Of course the partnership is motorsport-led, but it’s bigger than that,” she said. “When I first started [racing], I could name all of the influential women I knew in motorsport on one hand. Now there are so many, which shows how far we’ve come.”

ELEMIS CEO Sean Harrington emphasized the brand’s commitment to that progress. “Jessica’s fearless pursuit of progress in motorsport mirrors our own commitment to challenging the status quo and driving positive change,” he said. “Her passion, resilience, and advocacy for greater inclusivity make her a natural partner for ELEMIS. Together, we aim to inspire, empower, and elevate the voices of females in sport and beyond.”

FORT GREGG-ADAMS, Va. — NASCAR driver Justin Allgaier rolled into the installation on Wednesday to unveil a new patriotic paint scheme on his No. 7 Hellmann’s Chevrolet — this time with a special twist.

The event, held at Fort Gregg-Adams Commissary and hosted by DeCA supplier Unilever, featured a life-size racing car simulator wrapped in the new livery. The scheme proudly sported the Defense Commissary Agency logo, which will also appear on Allgaier’s car during the May 24 race at Charlotte Motor Speedway — just ahead of Memorial Day weekend.

“This partnership with DeCA and Unilever means a lot, especially going into Memorial Day,” Allgaier said. “It’s a way for us to honor the military community and thank them for their service and sacrifice.”

Families and fans gathered for a festive afternoon that included face painting, a balloon animal artist, live DJ music, prize giveaways, and a food station offering free deli sandwiches, chips and drinks.

Allgaier, a veteran driver with more than a dozen career wins in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, will carry the DeCA logo into competition at Charlotte Motor Speedway, where patriotic paint schemes are a Memorial Day tradition.

“This is more than just a paint scheme,” Allgaier said. “It’s about recognizing the men and women who serve — and making sure they know they’re appreciated both on and off the track.”
