Donald E. “Don” Day, aged 90, of Howard, departed this life at Lock Haven Rehab and Nursing Center, on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.
Born on August 24, 1934, he was the offspring of the late Charles T. and Charlotte M. (Schenck) Day.
Don proudly graduated from Howard High School, Class of 1952. He was employed at Piper Aircraft and engaged in construction work for local contractors prior to joining the Howard Nursery, where he concluded his career as a supervisor after over 25 years.
A devoted member of Faith Chapel in Hunter Run, Don served as a Liberty Township supervisor for an extended period. He was a passionate pool player and participated in numerous pool leagues. He relished attending auctions and was thrilled to expand his Hall’s China collection. He shared remarkable journeys with his siblings, cherishing every adventure, and he loved the potluck gatherings with his brothers and sisters.
Family held immense significance for Don, but his greatest joy came from his grandchildren. His face would light up whenever one entered the room. He valued every moment spent with his loved ones.
A member of the Beech Creek American Legion Post 623 and the Howard VFW Post 8269, Don’s affiliations were numerous.
He is survived by his five children: Terry W. Day and his spouse, Diane, of Howard, David L. Day and his wife, Mona, of Howard, Kathy J. McAulay and her husband, “Jug,” of Howard, Gregory W. Day and his wife, Carol, of Bellefonte, and Patty J. Cleaver and her husband, Steve, of Howard; nine grandchildren, Kenneth (Renee), Justin (Rebecca), Michelle, Meshia (Phil), Katrina (Steve), Tanner, Natalie (Matthew), Rachel (Kevin), and Joshua; along with 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings, Donna Flaig of Mill Hall, Gordon Day (Caroline) of Howard, Larry Day (Louisa) of Annapolis, Md., Judy Gephart (Jim) of DuBois, and Gary Day (Candy) of Howard; his former spouse and mother of his children, Beatrice Day of Howard; and his companion, Ivy Woomer of Howard.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Richard, and Arlin.
Visitation will take place on Monday, December 9, 2024, from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by the funeral service at noon with Pastor Catherine Dittman officiating at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Milesburg. The burial will be private at Schenck’s Cemetery in Howard Township.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc. in Milesburg, Pa. An online guest book is available for signing or for leaving condolences to the family at www.daughenbaughfuneralhome.com.
