Donny Schatz finds temporary ride after split with Tony Stewart Racing
BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – It took just two days for North Dakota native Donny Schatz to find a new car after parting ways with Tony Stewart Racing. Schatz announced on Thursday that he will race for Tod Quiring’s Big Game Motorsports for the next seven races, beginning this weekend in Minnesota.
Big Game Motorsports has the sixth-most all-time wins in the World of Outlaws. The team is based out of Brandon, South Dakota.
Schatz’s seven races with the team will include races at River City Speedway in Grand Forks on Aug. 22 and Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo on Aug. 23.
“We’re excited to have Donny be a part of the team for the next two and a half weeks,” Big Game Motorsports Owner Tod Quiring said in a statement. “Donny has produced a storied career with his 10 World of Outlaws championships and more than 300 World of Outlaws wins. He is also known as one of the cleanest race car drivers in the history of the sport and he does a tremendous job of taking care of equipment. All of that combined with the support from our crew and driver, David Gravel, made it an easy decision to create this second team while the World of Outlaws are racing close to our shop the rest of August.”
Schatz, a 10-time World of Outlaws champion, currently sits sixth in the point standings. He has eight top-five finishes this season through 47 races.
Earlier this week, Tony Stewart Racing announced the signing of Kerry Madsen to drive the No. 15 car in place of Schatz. That move came a couple of days after Schatz finished in 11th place at Knoxville Nationals.
Schatz will join David Gravel, the defending World of Outlaws champion, as a teammate with Big Game Motorsports.
