The 33-year-old East Bergholt powerlifter revealed the news on social media on Monday, also her birthday, after months of contemplating the decision.

“All my life before was spending time in the gym, training, and eating the right things, and now I’m sort of entering a new chapter.

She added: “From starting in the shed at my parents where it was freezing to getting to where I am today, I am so grateful.

She was “extremely proud” of her career, but after spending nearly two decades in the sport, “it was time” for her retirement.

“I just want to thank everyone so much for their support.

Winning gold at the Commonwealth Games in 2022 was also a highlight, she said.

“It has all been very weird since the retirement, as I’m used to training so much normally, ” she said.

“My advice for anyone getting into this sport would just to be to have fun and enjoy it.
