This year they have earned dozens of medals, more personal records than they can count on their hands and the same goes for school records broken. So the future is looking bright for this owl squad.ELGIN, Okla. (KSWO) – The Elgin Owls have jumped off the diving board in terms of success for their swimming this season. This team has earned countless medals and many other rewards.“It takes a lot of work,” Mason Thompson said. “I mean, it’s a lot of doing the same thing, you know, doing a lot of repetition. That’s what’s really good about swimming; it’s a little different from other sports where you can do a bunch of new stuff. But if you do it over and over again, you fix it, then add new stuff, then it changes. With the determination of these swimmers, they’re breaking records, dropping times, and making history for Elgin. I mean, it’s pretty cool to see.”“I think our teamwork skills are good,” Elgin swimmer Logan Squyres said. “Cheering people on and just being there for people when they mess up is something we do well too.”Elgin is also finding success both inside and outside of the pool.“It was a tough road to get here not as in like, team drama, but the workout has been brutal like mortal combat level brutal,” Elgin swimmer Austin Thompson said. “Being able to practice what we do, and how hard we work for stuff, will help us grow.”“Having a lot of time spent together and a lot of time practicing and seeing each other daily is helpful,” Elgin swimmer Emily Bean said. “I think we have worked hard together and will continue to grow.”“They need to try and put in their full effort and not sulk around,” Elgin Swimming Head Coach Mason Thompson said. “They’re all here for all business. They’re here to win and that’s what they tell me. I walk in. I’m like, what are you ready for? They’re ready for a win and ready for medals.”Copyright 2025 KSWO. Swim’s been around for six years. It’s my second year coaching and it’s been a big difference in the swim team and a lot of determination. And uh, state and regionals, they’re ready to win, and um, I’m ready to see some, bringing back some new records, some new medals. And yeah, I’m ready to see what’s going to happen.”The owls are getting ready for regionals early next month and state championships will be following a couple of weeks behind that. The Owls, with state championships commencing in a month, are preparing for one of their important matches.
