Elliott to celebrate NAPA’s 100th anniversary with gold car. Credits company for his NASCAR career
“NAPA has defined my entire career, I’ve said it a lot,” Elliott told The Associated Press. “I’ve tried to express my appreciation for them, but if they don’t come on board, I don’t think 2014 happens. “NAPA has defined my entire career, I’ve said it a lot,” Elliott told The Associated Press. “I’ve tried to express my appreciation for them, but if they don’t come on board, I don’t think 2014 happens. You’re essentially looking at the Xfinity championship never happening. We were going to run a handful of races had NAPA not signed on. We were talking about a part-time season and going full-time wasn’t going to be possible without that money, without that deal coming. So, yeah, it was more than a little career defining.”

Start: 11th
Stage 1: 16th
Stage 2: 24th
Finish: 22nd
Driver Points: 17th
Owner Points: 20th
- Key Takeaway: Matt Mills and the No. 42 team fought hard in Nashville, but struggled to gain track position in dirty air. Mills started 11th and maintained inside the top-15 through the opening part of the race, but began to fade in stage two. Stuck in traffic, the team made adjustments throughout the race to help the balance, and assisted Mills to pick up some spots late to finish 22nd.
- Matt Mills’ Post-Race Thoughts: “Tonight was a tough race for us. We went into the weekend with high hopes going off of what we had last year, but the truck just didn’t feel the same. I think the cooler temperatures changed how the track raced, and the resin made it hard for me to gain any ground on the guys around us. If we could have gotten into some cleaner air, we might have been in a better position, but it was really difficult to make anything happen once we got back there. Hopefully next week will be a better one for us on the J.F. Electric team; thanks to all my guys for giving it their all.”

- Key Takeaway: Bayley Currey and the No. 44 team showcased raw pace throughout the night in Nashville en route to another solid finish. Currey started sixth in the 150-lap event and maintained track position in both of the opening two stages. By finishing ninth in stage one and seventh in stage two, Currey picked up a total of six stage points. As the checkered flag flew, Currey secured his third top-10 finish of the year in ninth-place.
- Bayley Currey’s Post-Race Thoughts:
Interviewer: This was a tough track, but you kind of kept with it throughout the evening.
“Yeah, for sure. Track position seemed like everything. Just trying to find that clean air, how to take the runs when you had them, no matter how sketchy they were, and get all you could on restarts. Luckily, our pit crew was on fire tonight and they gave me some really good track position.”
Interviewer: I was talking to your teammate, Kaden Honeycutt, about the difference between running full time and being a part time guy. How hard is it to get in the rhythm when you run part time?
“It’s definitely tough, you know, I was a little worried when the rain came earlier, that I was going to just jump in this thing and go. I didn’t really get much sim time for this weekend, and yeah, luckily, we got 50 minutes there to let me get in my rhythm, and then once you get in the race, it all kind of always comes back to you. It’s like riding a bike. I’ve raced here quite a few times, and jumping in with a team like Nice Motorsports who work as hard as they do to give you good trucks is pretty easy.”

- Key Takeaway: Kaden Honeycutt and the No. 45 team had a great points night in Nashville. With qualifying cancelled due to rain, Honeycutt started on the front row in second place. The team took full advantage of the track position and stayed near the front of the pack all race long. Honeycutt earned 10 extra points by finishing fifth in both stages. At the end of the night, the No. 45 came home in sixth-place, marking their eighth top-10 of the year.
- Kaden Honeycutt’s Post-Race Thoughts:
Interviewer: That was a heck of a run. You stayed in the hunt throughout the night.
“Yeah, just, we just needed to find some speed tonight. I don’t really know what our issue was, man. We showed up with the same setup we had there last year, and it was really good. We just didn’t have it tonight. I mean, we were top five pretty much the whole night just, you know, we’re fighting to win races. All of us, you know, we’re fighters and we want to win. So, you know, not what we wanted, but it’s still a good points tonight. Just got to look at the positive sides of it. So thanks DQS Solutions & Staffing , Masked Owl Technologies, AutoVentive, Precision, everyone that helps us on us on this deal, Butlerbuilt seats for keeping me safe. Yeah, a good run. I hate that we didn’t get a top-five there, but we’ll keep on going. We got a lot of momentum on our side, just going to keep on building great trucks and a win will eventually follow one day.”

NASCAR pulled AJ Allmendinger’s car off pit road at Nashville Superspeedway before practice, and the team could face potential penalties next week.
The No. 16 team was suspected of making unapproved adjustments to its Chevrolet on pit road after passing initial inspection. NASCAR required the team to go back through the inspection, where it was confirmed that those adjustments had been made. Once the team fixed the issues to NASCAR’s satisfaction, they were allowed to rejoin the grid for practice and qualifying.
A NASCAR spokesperson said there could be more to come for the team as far as potential penalties are concerned.
Allmendinger enters the weekend sitting 18th in the NASCAR Cup Series championship standings with four top-10 finishes. He is 13 points out of a spot on the playoff grid.
Sunday’s race at Nashville Superspeedway is set for 7 p.m. ET. It is the 14th race of the season.
Update: AJ Allmendinger will drop to the rear of the NASCAR Cup Series field Sunday at Nashville Superspeedway and have to serve a penalty at the start of the race.
NASCAR provided further details Saturday night about the issue with the No. 16 team before practice started, which resulted in the car being sent back to the garage. The car was re-run across the underbody scanning station to confirm the team had made an unapproved adjustment after going through pre-race inspection.
The adjustment was to the splitter area. NASCAR had the team repair the adjustment, and the car was inspected again to confirm its compliance before it rejoined the field.
Allmendinger did practice but was held for 10 minutes. He qualified 17th.
However, additional penalties have been handed down that will see Allmendinger drop to the rear for the start of the Cracker Barrel 400 and serve a stop-and-go penalty after the green flag. The team also lost pit stall selection for the race, and car chief Jaron Antley was ejected for the weekend. Antley also had his hard card confiscated.

MSR Acura ends Porsche’s dominant run with Detroit victory
In a classic finish, Acura Meyer Shank Racing, Renger van der Zande and Nick Yelloly converted their first pole of 2025 into a win in the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic at Detroit. In a classic finish, Acura Meyer Shank Racing, Renger van der Zande and Nick Yelloly converted their first pole of 2025 into a win in the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic at Detroit. The No. 93 Acura ARX-06 pulled off the victory after van der Zande overtook Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing’s Ricky Taylor with less than five minutes to go.
Detroit marks the first win for Meyer Shank Racing in IMSA since returning from a one-year sabbatical, and the first for van der Zande and Yelloly with their new team and manufacturer.
Taylor, who seemingly made the race-winning pass just minutes earlier, and co-driver Filipe Albuquerque finished second in the No. 10 Cadillac V-Series.R, the first podium for the Cadillac Racing moniker in either IMSA or WEC.
Porsche Penske Motorsport’s incredible four-race winning streak in GTP came to an end, but both cars still earned solid top-five finishes. The No. 6 Porsche 963 of Mathieu Jaminet and Matt Campbell was third, just ahead of the championship-leading No. 7 Porsche of Nick Tandy and Felipe Nasr.
Rounding out the top five in GTP was the No. 24 Team RLL BMW M Hybrid V8 (Dries Vanthoor/Philipp Eng), with the No. 60 MSR Acura (Tom Blomqvist/Colin Braun) in sixth and the No. 25 BMW (Sheldon van der Linde/Marco Wittmann) in seventh, following a post-race time penalty for overtaking under yellows.
The No. 23 Aston Martin THOR Team Valkyrie (Ross Gunn/Roman de Angelis) tied its best result of 2025 in eighth.
Yelloly controlled the opening stint of the race in the No. 93 Acura, leading a Meyer Shank 1-2 ahead of the No. 60 of Tom Blomqvist. After a brief full course yellow for debris, Tandy continued a charge towards the front and moved up to fourth, while Albuquerque had gained three spots on the opening lap to climb to fifth.
As teams made their pit stops for fuel and driver changes, some quick in-laps from Tandy and a fast pit stop from the Penske crew allowed the No. 7 Porsche, now in the hands of Nasr, to take the net lead ahead of the No. 93 Acura of van der Zande.
Quite a long first stint and a quicker stop for the No. 10 Cadillac allowed Taylor to slot into second place, but with Nasr out in front, a fifth straight win for Porsche Penske seemed inevitable.
With less than 40 minutes to go, a collision between two GTD PRO cars bunched the field up again, but on the restart with 28 minutes left, Nasr got an outstanding restart and put distance between Taylor and van der Zande.
Taylor didn’t let Nasr escape. Just as he did last year with a strong move up the inside of Turn 3, Taylor tried the same move with 15 minutes to go. While Nasr was able to shut the door through Turn 3, Taylor surprised the Brazilian by cutting back and lunging up the inside to take the lead.
Van der Zande then slipped past Nasr for second, and Jaminet followed him through into third place. The Acura kept closing in on the Cadillac, and with five minutes left, van der Zande got a great exit out of the final two corners and dove up the inside of Taylor to grab the lead.
The No. 93 Acura held on to win by a final margin of 0.947s over the No. 10 Cadillac.
Nasr and Tandy still lead the IMSA GTP Drivers’ Championship by 70 points over Jaminet and Campbell, and now Porsche Penske’s focus will turn towards the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the pursuit of Porsche’s 20th overall Le Mans win.
After a storybook duel between Ford and Corvette, it was the No. 64 Ford Multimatic Motorsports Mustang GT3 of Sebastian Priaulx and Mike Rockenfeller that took the GTD PRO class win over the No. 3 Pratt Miller Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R of Antonio Garcia and Alexander Sims.
Rockenfeller held off Sims by 1.6s to take the factory Ford team’s second win of 2025, and the first for the No. 64 car.
Sims and Garcia clawed their way up from eighth on the grid to finish second, but Sims was only 0.3s ahead of the third-placed No. 9 Pfaff Motorsports Lamborghini Huracan GT3 of Andrea Caldarelli and Marco Mapelli. Pfaff scored its first podium of the year and first as a Lamborghini customer team.
Following a collision in the final minutes between Laurin Heinrich and Nicky Catsburg, the No. 77 AO Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R and No. 4 Pratt Miller Corvette were demoted to fifth and sixth, behind the No. 14 Vasser Sullivan Racing Lexus RC F GT3 (Jack Hawksworth/Aaron Telitz), that overcame two drive-through penalties for pit lane problems to finish fourth.
Heinrich and AO Racing teammate Klaus Bachler still lead the GTD PRO standings, but by only 31 points over the Corvette duo of Sims and Garcia. Priaulx and Rockenfeller moved up to third in the table after their win.
The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship returns on Sunday, June 22nd, for the Sahlen’s Six Hours at the Glen, the third race of the 2025 Michelin Endurance Cup.

Ross Chastain is a +300 favorite to win, according to DraftKings. William Byron won last week in Charlotte, but will not race the Xfinity series this week.
Here’s a recent NASCAR story via The AP:
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Sunday night’s Coca-Cola 600 averaged 2.72 million viewers in Prime Video’s first NASCAR race.
The race, which was won by Ross Chastain, was the third-highest-watched NASCAR race this season not carried by Fox. FS1 averaged 2.89 million viewers for the March 16 race at Las Vegas and 2.84 million for Phoenix on March 9.
Fox Sports had the first 12 races of the season, with eight being carried on FS1. Last year’s Coca-Cola 600 on Fox averaged 3.2 million viewers.
According to Nielsen, the audience for Sunday night’s race peaked at 2.92 million viewers near the midway point.
Prime Video’s audience had an average age of 55.8 years, which is more than six years younger than the average median age of viewers watching NASCAR Cup Series races on linear TV (61.9).
The 67-minute postrace show averaged 1.04 million viewers and peaked at 1.26 million.
This was the first of five races that Prime Video will carry this season.

NASCAR catches Kaulig Racing making unapproved adjustments, ejects car chief

While A.J. Allmendinger hoped to carry the momentum from a fourth-place finish in the Coca-Cola 600 into Nashville, things are off to a difficult start for the No. 16 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet.
While sitting on pit road in preparation for practice, NASCAR officials demanded the car be brought back to the garage. A crew member messing with the splitter caught the eye of officials who saw something they did not like. Officials suspected that the team had made unapproved adjustments to the splitter after pre-qualifying inspection.

To make matters worse, the car failed on its first trip through the inspection after being brought back to the garage, confirming NASCAR’s suspicions. The team was scrambling to make the changes NASCAR wanted as practice rapidly approached.
They finally passed on the second attempt, but officials held the car for the first ten minutes of of the 25-minute Group B practice as a result.
In the hours that followed, NASCAR has announced that the team has lost pit stall selection for Sunday’s race and will be sent to the rear of the field. He had originally qualified in 17th on the 39-car grid. Car Chief Jaron Antley has also been ejected from the track for the remainder of the weekend and his hard card was confiscated by series officials.
And when the race begins, Allmendinger will be forced to perform a stop-and-go penalty under green flag conditions.

“It’s just a part of NASCAR life,” Allmendinger told on NASCAR on Prime. “NASCAR saw something they didn’t like when we were sitting there, we had to go back, (and) my guys did a good job. We got back through there…only lost 10 or 12 minutes of practice, and the way these practices work, you almost run out of tire anyway so it’s not like you gotta be out there for 25 minutes.”
The veteran driver entered this race 18th in the championship standings, just 13 points below the cut-line. Kaulig is winless through the first 13 races of the 2025 season with their best showing coming just last weekend with Allmendinger’s top five finish in the 600.

NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin has a reserve driver in place for Sunday’s race at Nashville Superspeedway
This weekend, NASCAR is racing at Nashville Superspeedway. The NASCAR Cup Series race is scheduled for tomorrow.
Denny Hamlin, driver of the No. 11 car and Jordan Fish have two children. A third child is on the way.
The two have been engaged since 2024.
Their third child is expected this weekend, specifically on Sunday. Hamlin stated this weekend that he will not race if the baby comes within the window of the race.
He expects to make that decision tomorrow, before the race. However, the deadline is not confirmed on when he will make that decision.
Ryan Truex is on standby and prepared to jump into the No. 11 as the reserve driver if Hamlin elects to skip tomorrow’s race.
With 2 race wins in 2025, Hamlin has already qualified for the 2025 playoffs.
However, in order to qualify for the NASCAR Playoffs, drivers are required to run every points race. NASCAR does hand out waivers for medical reasons.
In this case, Hamlin would be granted a waiver and remain eligible for the playoffs.
Nashville TV Schedule: May-June 2025 (NASCAR)
