Exploring consultation results for UNESCO global policy standards for safe sport

The Sport & Rights Alliance, in collaboration with UNESCO’s Sport Section, led a consultation to gather perspectives on UNESCO’s Global Policy Standards for Inclusive, Equitable and Safe Sport. A 1-hour online workshop will share key findings and discuss insights shaping the future of safe sport on December 17, 2025.

In collaboration with UNESCO’s Sport Section, the Sport & Rights Alliance has led a two-phase consultation consisting of an online survey and in-person focus groups to gather the perspectives of impacted people on UNESCO’s Global Policy Standards for Inclusive, Equitable and Safe Sport and Physical Education (Global Policy Standards).

The Global Policy Standards aim to harmonize approaches to safe sport across UNESCO member states, provide a clear benchmark and metrics for measuring progress and accountability, guide evidence-based policy and practices, and build  momentum to improve safe sport efforts at the global level.

Join us for a 1-hour online workshop to learn the key findings of the consultation and discuss  insights shaping the future of safe sport.

In view of our mission to create and strengthen safe spaces for people affected by abuse in sport to heal, amplify one another’s voices, and advocate for systemic change, we hope you will join us and bring any questions you may have about the the Global Policy Standards.

Format: 1-hour online session with interpretation in Spanish and Portuguese.

Panelists: 

  • Diaba Konaté (she/her): former French basketball and NCAA collegiate player, human rights advocate against hijab bans in sport.
  • Kim Shore (she/her): recognized safe sport advocate, former elite athlete, sport abuse survivor and founder of Project Safe Kids.
  • Nancy McLennan (she/her): Fit for Life Lead and program specialist at UNESCO’s sports sector.
