PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania’s men’s swimming and diving squad displayed impressive speed and made significant progress to ascend into second place after the second day of competition at Princeton’s Big Al Invitational on Saturday at DeNunzio Pool.
 
After Day 2, the Quakers are in second place with 574 points, trailing the Tigers (798.5).
 
Matt Fallon triumphed in a closely contested 100 breaststroke, while Cody Hopkins secured the victory in the one-meter dive.
 
Quaker Highlights
*Fallon achieved an NCAA B-Cut time of 52.16 in the 100 breast, edging out teammate Watson Nguyen, who finished second (52.73) with a B-Cut time as well. Peter Whittington placed seventh at 54.41, while Jeffrey Hou took eighth (54.89).
 
*Hopkins delivered a solid performance in the three-meter dive on Saturday, earning the win with a score of 313.55.
 
*Freshman Can John Yeniay had a commendable race in the 200 freestyle, finishing third with a time of 1:37.42. Max Malakhovets clocked in at 1:38.12 for fifth place, with Xavier Hill in eighth (1:41.91).
 
*Hou achieved fifth place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 47.72, and Peter Whittington recorded an NCAA B-Cut time of 3:48.66 in the 400 IM, also placing fifth.
 
*Penn finished strong in two relays: the 800 free relay, where they earned second place with a time of 6:31.52 from James Curreri, Fallon, Malakhovets, and Yeniay, and the 200-medley relay, achieving third with Hou, Nguyen, Alex Fu, and Liam Campbell finishing at 1:27.11.
 
Coming Up
Penn will conclude their participation at the Big Al Invitational on Sunday at 10 a.m. with prelims and at 5 p.m. with finals at Princeton’s DeNunzio Pool.
