Father McGivney girls score program record 91 points in win

The Griffins, now 7-5, will play Wesclin in their second pool play game on Dec. 27.

The Griffins couldn’t have asked for a better start, as they led 22-8 after the first quarter, 54-15 at halftime and 82-19 after the third quarter. They scored 32 points in the second quarter and 28 points in the third quarter. Zoe Oller finished with nine points, seven rebounds and three steals, while Izzie Venarsky had eight points, five rebounds and four assists, and Sabrina Ivnik had four points. The Griffins were 36 of 81 (44 percent) shooting from the field, including 12 of 24 (50 percent) from 3-point range.

The Father McGivney girls basketball team opened the Christ Our Rock Lutheran Winterfest with its highest-scoring game in program history. The Griffins rolled past Elverado 91-22 on Dec. 26 in the first pool play game of the Winterfest in Centralia. Father McGivney is looking to win the tournament championship for a third straight season.

Julia Behrmann scored 12 points, while Devin Ellis, Peyton Ellis and Alexa Jones each scored 11 points and Layla Tobin had 10 points and five steals. Peyton Ellis added eight rebounds and three steals, while Devin Ellis had seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. The tournament will then conclude with bracket play on Dec. 28 and Dec. 30.

With 91 points, Father McGivney beat its previous single-game record set in an 84-19 win over Bunker Hill on Feb. 13, 2023. Six Father McGivney players scored in double figures, including Emerson McGaughey with a game-high 15 points. Behrmann led the team with four 3-pointers. McGaughey had three.
