If you love cars, live music, great food, and fun for the whole family, then Downtown El Paso is the place to be on May 10. Get ready for FCC Fest, a high octane celebration hosted by FCC Motorsports and El General Humvee, taking over San Jacinto Plaza for an unforgettable day.

“FCC Motorsports is a local car club that’s traveled across the country,” Alfredo Morga explained. But this is our first time throwing a massive show right here in our hometown – and we’re shutting down the streets to do it big.”

FCC Fest Car Show runs from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and it’s not just about cars – it’s about community, culture, and celebration. This family-friendly event will offer something for everyone, from classic car enthusiasts to music lovers and foodies.

One of the biggest draws? The appearance of Shirley Muldowney, known as the first lady of drag racing. A motorsport legend, Muldowney made history on the track and has roots in El Paso.

“She’s coming down to meet fans, sign autographs, and showcase her iconic Cha Cha Nova.” Morga shared. “It’s a piece of automotive art that people won’t want to miss.”

And that’s not all – FCC Fest is aiming to break a world record with 3,400 guests dancing the Cha-Cha Slide in the heart of downtown. “Let’s make it happen, El Paso!” Morga cheered.

In honor of Mother’s Day weekend, the entertainment lineup includes: local rock favorites, The Roulettes, an all-women mariachi group and performances by DJ Johnny Kage and DJ Technotics.

Whether you’re grooving to classic hits or discovering new local talent, the plaza will be pulsing with rhythm and excitement.

Tickets are available now at eventbrite: $15 presale and $20 at the gate.

“This is the first time we’re closing down downtown streets for a car show like this,” said Morga. “El Paso deserves something on this level and we’re proud to make it happen.”

Whether you’re a gearhead, a music lover, or just looking for a fun way to spend the day with friends and family, FCC Fest is ready to deliver.

Mark your calendars: May 10, San Jacinto Plaza, Come for the cars, stay for the vibes. Buckle up, El Paso – it’s going to be a ride to remember!

Indy 500 Winner Alex Palou Interested in Running NASCAR Road Race

It’s been a dream season so far for Alex Palou in the NTT IndyCar Series.

The three-time NTT IndyCar Series champion appears to be heading toward a fourth championship as the 28-year-old has amassed five wins through the opening six races of the season, and this past weekend, he scored his first career win in the Indianapolis 500, one of the most prestigious races in the world.

As Palou continues to pile on career accolades in the NTT IndyCar Series, he’s allowed himself to start daydreaming about other opportunities in addition to his full-time IndyCar driving duties with Chip Ganassi Racing.

Palou, who had aspirations of moving to Formula One a few years ago, before being entangled in a strange and public contract dispute between Chip Ganassi Racing and McLaren during the 2022 season, explained in an interview with the Indy Star that he no longer has a desire to move from the NTT IndyCar Series ranks to Formula One.

“(F1) is not calling me anymore. I still follow it. It’s a huge series. It’s amazing. I’m a big fan, but I don’t think they’re having as much fun as I’m having here,” Palou said to the Indy Star. “I don’t see people celebrating with their wives and their kids as much as we do. I don’t see them hanging in the bus lot or having dinner with their mechanics. I only enjoy driving and having fun and being with my people, so I think (F1) is the total opposite.”

While F1 is off the table, Palou, who appeared on Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour Podcast this week, didn’t rule out competing in NASCAR in the future. Palou said while he knows he wouldn’t have much of a chance of competing against the full-time NASCAR drivers on ovals, he’d like to mix it up with them on a road course or street course down the line.

“Oh, absolutely. I’d be down for that,” Palou said of running in NASCAR. “I mean, it’s a very different car, it’s a very different kind of racing, but I know I would get smashed by all of you guys on ovals, but I would love to give it a try at a road or a street course.”

That’s an interesting answer as Palou’s NTT IndyCar Series team owner, Chip Ganassi, was a longtime NASCAR Cup Series team owner, who sold his race team and assets to Justin Marks and Trackhouse Racing a few of years ago.

Interestingly enough, Trackhouse Racing fields a part-time No. 91 entry, known as PROJECT91, where it gives opportunities to world-class drivers attempting to make one-off starts in the NASCAR Cup Series. Perhaps there could be a path there for Palou if he truly wants to run a NASCAR Cup Series event on a road course?

NASCAR track Rockingham Speedway for sale after $12 million refurbishment

Rockingham Speedway, which has recently undergone a $12 million refurbishment, has gone up for sale with CBRE Group.

This comes after The Rock returned to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for the first time in over a decade, and the Xfinity Series in more than 20 years. The current owner of the 250+ acre plot, Dan Lovenheim, acquired the property in August 2018 and has worked to develop certain areas of the track to bring it up to standard expected for modern NASCAR racing.

Rockingham Speedway’s $12 million renovation

According to the sales listing, Rockingham Speedway has had a $12 million renovation, completed ahead of NASCAR’s return in April 2025. Included in these renovations is a repaved main track, which cost $3.3 million, a modernised media center, and improvements to the permanent bleachers to bring them up to the current code.

Over $10 million of the $12 million invested came from the state government budget. The listing states:

“Between 2022-2025, The Rock was the recipient of over 10M in grants and appropriations from the State of North Carolina. These grants were used to improve the track and the surrounding infrastructure.

“In 2025, The Rock has requested an additional 12M in appropriations from the NC General Assembly for additional track and infrastructure improvements to get The Rock ‘cup ready’ for a potential NASCAR Cup Race in 2026 or 2027.”

Discussing the renovations with The Richmond Observer, Lovenheim explained in 2024:

“Weeds were growing out of the track surfaces, weeds were growing out of every single piece of pavement. The place was overgrown and the water damage from the rain coming off the grandstands nearly rendered this place unusable.

“Luckily we got in and started doing renovations very quickly.”

He added:

“We’re in the process of creating a new hybridized form of entertainment. Gone are the days of sitting in grandstands like packed sardines. People these days want to go and experience the fun and the amenities, whether it’s experiencing the races from various viewpoints; having some food, maybe a beverage; or even letting their kids play in the bouncy house.”

Rockingham Speedway hits the market

The property is available with an open offering period before the buyer is chosen on July 1.

During an interview with The Charlotte Observer, Lovenheim explained his reason for selling:

“We’ve basically taken it in first gear as far as we can go, building it out, getting it ready for bigger and better hands. And the time is right to pass the baton to someone who can take it farther than we can.”

Now, of course, we have to talk about the Streamliner Alpine Mechanics Edition. A Streamliner with a screen. From afar, it might look like many a mechanical Moser — the distinctive shape of the steel Streamliner case, small Funky Blue fumé dial at 12 o’clock, and bright blue rubber strap are very similar traits to the Alpine Streamliner Cylindrical Tourbillon released last year. But that’s as far as resemblance goes. Instead of an intricately skeletonized movement with a giant tourbillon, the rest of the dial for this Alpine Mechanics Edition is all black.

Until you take the watch out of standby mode, when a screen lights up to reveal its hidden digital complications — a GMT function, split seconds chronograph, perpetual calendar, and a “F1 Mode” with countdown functionality and notifications for team alerts. Moser has certainly never produced a smartwatch before, and so it partners with Sequent for this hybrid analogue-digital caliber with a “power reserve” of 12 months for the time indication and “6 Grands Prix” worth of power for the digital display when continuously lit. You’ll need to charge this watch using the included charging cable.
