NEW YORK — Columbia fencing capped an incredible regular season with six victories at the George Kolombatovich Historical Meet on Wednesday. The women finish dual meet season with a 33-2 record, and the men moved to 29-3 on the year.
The women earned the Katy Bilodeau Trophy for the third straight year, while the men retained the Irving Martin Preschel Trophy for the fourth consecutive season after victories over the Violets to begin the competition. The men used a 6-3 win in foil to earn a 15-12 decision. The women were in control for all three weapons in a 22-5 victory.
As has been tradition in recent years, the Lions shifted the lineups to allow seniors to fence in different disciplines in their final dual meet, and it made no difference in the results. In the final two rounds, the men defeated Sacred Heart, 14-13, and Vassar, 18-9. The Lion women posted wins over the Pioneers, 23-4, and the Brewers, 22-5, to wrap up the regular season.
Columbia will return to action on Sunday, March 9, when it competes at the NCAA Northeast Regional in Medford, Massachusetts.
