Five Track & Field Beacons Achieve CSC Academic All-District Status

Five members of the Valparaiso University track & field and cross country programs were recognized as College Sports Communicators released academic all-district accolades for those sports on Tuesday.
 
The trio that represented Valpo on the men’s side was comprised of junior thrower Nate Smith (Lake Station, Ind. / Lake Station), junior distance runner Brian Sponaugle (Milton, De. / Cape Henlopen) and junior jumper Gavin Schaefer (Lake Saint Louis, Mo. / Timberland). On the women’s side, junior multis athlete Katie Koryczan (Crown Point, Ind. / Crown Point [Purdue Northwest]) and junior thrower Amelia Tandy (New Albany, Ind. / New Albany) were recognized.
 

To qualify for CSC Academic All-District honors in track & field, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore, own at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and must be among the top performers in their region in at least one event.
 
Sponaugle, Smith and Koryczan are all multi-time CSC Academic All-District honorees.
