Childs was a part of the Nolensville staff the last eight years. He will be the quarterbacks coach, dean of students and assistant athletic director in his new role MBA. The Knights went 7-5 this season falling in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs at Shelbyville. They reached the Class 4A state semifinals in 2019 and 2020 and twice suffered narrow playoff setbacks against local rival Page in 2021 and 2022 when the Patriots went on to play for the state championship.Derrick said the decision to leave “was not an easy one.”
The school and coach shared the news Tuesday morning.Derrick was announced as the new head coach in January 2018 and coached the Knights to a 58-28 record the last seven years, including going 26-9 in region play.Derrick served as the defensive coordinator for the Knights with then head coach Will Hester – currently the leader at Ravenwood – as the pair teamed up to launch the Nolensville program in the first season in 2016. The Knights made the playoffs the following year and haven’t missed since. “I feel like it is what is best for me at this time,” he said. “I will look back on my time here with so many great memories and relationships that were made.””I would like to thank Nolensville High School and the Nolensville community for embracing me as their head football coach for the last seven years,” Derrick said in a release. “It has been an honor to serve this school and all the players that have come through this program.”
Curran was the offensive coordinator at Nolensville and served with the program for seven seasons. He announced about two weeks ago that he’d return to his alma mater as part of new head coach Zach Mettenberger’s staff. “Lastly, and most importantly, I want to say thank you to all of the players that have come through this football program and built it into what it is today,” Derrick said. “Without you guys there would be no Nolensville football. I love each and every one of you and I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished over the years. Nolensville High School will always be special to me.”He thanked the administration and all his assistants for their commitment.NOLENSVILLE – He was there during the inaugural season at Nolensville High School but now, after nine seasons, Paul Derrick announced that he is leaving the football program.It took less than an hour after the announcement that Hester was leaving that Derrick was hired.Nolensville assistants Patrick Curran and Daniel Childs also recently announced changes with Curran moving to Father Ryan and Childs heading to Montgomery Bell Academy. “Coach Derrick has been more than just a leader on the field at Nolensville High School: he’s been a mentor and inspiration to our athletes,” Nolensville principal Jennifer Calvert said. “His passion and commitment to our Knights have left an impact that won’t be forgotten. While we are sad to see him go, we are incredibly grateful for the years he has spent building this program and shaping the lives of so many young athletes.”
