Atwater, who was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton in 2021, was announced this week as part of the third annual class for the National High School Football Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony  for the 34-member class will be June 14 at the Zimmerman Symphony Center in Canton. Among the other notable members of the 2025 National High School Football Hall of Fame class are Pro Football Hall of Famers Ray Lewis, Warren Moon and Jim Thorpe; 2006 Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith; former college football stars Michael Vick, Craig James and Tim Couch; New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel; and former NBA star Allen Iverson. Atwater, 58, played football, basketball and baseball, and ran track at Lutheran North High School in St. Louis. He was voted his league’s most valuable player as a quarterback in 1984. “They’re nice accolades,” Atwater told DenverBroncos.com on Thursday. “It’s nice to be recognized for being good at something.” The Broncos drafted Atwater 20th overall in the first round of the 1989 NFL Draft. He spent 10 of 11 seasons in Denver, where he played on Super Bowl-winning teams in 1997 and 1998 and was an 8-time Pro Bowl selection. Atwater chose to play at Arkansas over Missouri and Tulsa and played safety for the Razorbacks. He was an All-American as a junior in 1987 and senior in 1988, and was named to the All-Southwest Conference first or second team his final three seasons. “My greatest memories were just remembering the times before practice, after practice,” Atwater told DenverBroncos.com. “It’s just great memories of some guys that I still love to this day.”FAYETTEVILLE — Former Arkansas football star Steve Atwater is headed back to Canton, Ohio.He had 229 career tackles and holds the program’s career record with 14 interceptions.
