PROVIDENCE, R.I. – On Saturday, December 7, 2024, the Providence College men’s and women’s track squads participated in the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener held at Boston University.  Graduate student Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England), a six-time All-American, secured second place in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:45.67, establishing a new indoor record for the school.  She was the highest-placing collegiate athlete in this event.  Her performance ranks as the sixth fastest recorded in collegiate history.  The former record for Providence College in the women’s indoor 3,000 meter event was 8:49.18, achieved by Kim Smith at the NCAA Indoor Championship in March 2004.

Additionally, for the women’s team, Friar sophomore Kiera Hall (Christchurch, New Zealand) clinched victory in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:48.82.   Junior Jill Fenerty (Franklin, Mass.) finished 13th in the 300 meters, clocking in at 40.53.

For the men’s squad, senior Michael Morgan (Sligo, Ireland) topped his heat in the 5,000 meters with a personal best of 13:56.10.

The Friars will continue competition on Jan. 12 at the UMass Amherst Flagship Invitational in Boston, Mass.
