Prior to joining the Playhouse, she served as counsel to The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C. She is a graduate of UC San Diego and Harvard Law School. She lives in Solana Beach with her husband and three children.This is a joint presentation sponsored by Solana Beach Community Connections (SBCC) and the Friends of the Solana Beach Library. The event is free and open to the public.Over the past 40 years, La Jolla Playhouse has sent 36 shows to Broadway and many more shows have developed at the Playhouse and moved on to theaters in New York and beyond. Discover what makes La Jolla Playhouse the special “incubator” of new work that it is. How do projects come to the Playhouse, develop at the Playhouse, and then move on to productions throughout the United States and the world? What role does the San Diego audience play in that development process?
The La Jolla Playhouse, founded in 1947, is where artists and audiences come together to create and experience new and innovative productions for American audiences. Join La Jolla Playhouse Managing Director Debby Buchholz on Tuesday, Jan. 14 for a conversation about how the La Jolla Playhouse helps make San Diego one of the most exciting theater towns in America. Come at 5:30 p.m. for “mix and mingle” refreshments before the 6: p.m. lecture at the Solana Beach Library. The library is located at 157 Stevens Avenue, Solana Beach.
Buchholz joined the Playhouse in 2002, serving first as general manager before becoming managing director. She is responsible for directing the overall strategic plan, financial management, marketing, development, production management and labor relations. Buchholz is president of the board of directors for the League of Resident Theaters (LORT), the largest professional theatre association in the United States, and is a recipient of a San Diego Women Who Mean Business Award from the San Diego Business Journal.
