25 years prior
December 7, 1999 – A proposal to redirect letter-sized mail to St. Cloud for sorting has yet to be officially called off, but local American Postal Workers Union President Kent Bahr mentioned that the community is substantial enough to keep mail sorting in Bemidji. If this change occurs, Bemidji would forfeit its postmark.

Half a century ago
December 7, 1974 – Lou Ferreri and Jim Back established an interior design and advertising firm named 411 ½, situated above Gambles on Beltrami Avenue. They have undertaken projects for several local businesses, including Sounds of Ivory, O’Meara’s, Paul Bunyan Manufacturing, and even some artwork for the Pioneer.
A century ago
December 7, 1924 – Three members of a committee appointed by the U.S. Veterans Bureau visited Bemidji to choose a location for the tuberculosis hospital to be established in the 10th District. They examined two sites located north and south of Bemidji. The committee will travel to Brainerd for a similar evaluation before reaching a conclusion.
