The Red Rocket League eSports team from Frostburg State University recently clinched consecutive divisional championships, triumphing over Babson College in the final match. FSU Red has suffered only one defeat in a series and is currently riding an 18 series winning streak, having secured 58 victories out of 74 games within that span.

The roster for the FSU Red Rocket League team features team captain John Lutz (JLutz), Thomas Rafferty (Miilynx), and newcomer Aom Bauman (Aommelett). During the group stage, where they engaged in six matches against other colleges in a best of 5 format, FSU Red dominated their first three adversaries with 3-0 sweeps and went on to win all their remaining group stage matches, two of which required a decisive game 5. FSU Red wrapped up the group stage in the top position with a flawless 6-0 series record, conceding only 5 out of 23 games played.

In the playoff rounds, the format shifted to best of seven matches. During the quarterfinals, FSU Red went up against Hesston College, the fourth-place team from the alternative divisional group, whom they swept 4-0, outscoring them with 23 goals to 7. FSU Red advanced to the semifinals, where they battled Kent State University. They showcased their best performance of the season, again winning with a 4-0 sweep, securing their place in the championship.

As they approached the divisional grand final, FSU Red faced a familiar foe – Babson College. FSU Red claimed victory in the first three games of the best of 7, leading 3-0. The next two games went to Babson, bringing the series to 3-2 in favor of FSU. In game 6, FSU equalized the score to 1-1 with two minutes remaining. Miilynx and Aommelett seized the moment to smash the ball at 100 mph directly into the Babson net with just over 90 seconds left on the clock. FSU added two more goals to secure their second divisional championship in consecutive semesters.

“I’m graduating this semester, so we aimed to finish on a high with a second title,” stated FSU Red’s team captain John Lutz. “I’m incredibly proud of the guys for accomplishing this. I found it amusing that they were likely pursuing the same redemption story as we did last semester, but we weren’t going to let that happen for Babson.” Lutz referred to avenging their only series defeat in the previous semester’s grand final.
