Funeral arrangements announced for late conservative activist Charlie Kirk
PHOENIX (KPHO/Gray News) – Funeral arrangements have been announced for Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist who was assassinated while speaking at a Utah university earlier this week.
According to Kirk’s Turning Point USA organization, his funeral will be held at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on Sept. 21.
Doors will open at 8 a.m., with the program beginning at 11 a.m.
Kirk was killed by a single shot in what police said was a targeted attack, with Utah Governor Spencer Cox calling it a political assassination.
Kirk co-founded the nonprofit political organization Turning Point USA, based in Arizona. He had been speaking at a debate hosted by Turning Point at Utah Valley University at the time of Wednesday’s shooting.
A manhunt was launched to find the reported assassin.
On Friday, authorities announced that Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested in connection with the deadly shooting.
Robinson had become “more political” in the run-up to the shooting and mentioned during a dinner with family that Kirk would be visiting Utah, the Utah governor shared in a news conference.
Cox cited as evidence engravings on bullet casings found in the rifle that authorities believe was used in the attack, as well as chat app messages attributed to the suspect that a roommate shared with law enforcement.
Robinson is believed to have acted alone, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities said the 22-year-old was arrested on suspicion of capital murder, weapons and obstruction offenses.
