Garfield junior Conner Hunt was one of 46 athletes named to the annual U.S. Paralympics Track & Field High School All-American team, as announced by the organization Monday.
Hunt was recognized for his work in the seated 100- and 400-meter dashes. At this summer’s Hartford Nationals, Hunt notched a record time of 15.97 seconds in the 100, as well as a 56.89 in the 400.
Hunt is also a remarkable six-for-six at the state meet, winning the 100, 400 and 800 as a freshman and sophomore. His top Ohio High School Athletic Association times include a 16.68 in the state 100 as a freshman, along with a 1:01.70 in the state 400 and a 2:10.78 in the state 800 as a sophomore.
Per the press release, the list of 46 All-Americans recognizes the top high school track and field athletes who have a Paralympic-eligible impairment based on their performances in the 2024 season. This is the 14th group of athletes to have been awarded the honor.
The selection criteria looked at the top athlete performances in each event in 2024 as compared against the “A” standard for the U.S. Paralympics Track & Field National Team. Athletes who competed in high school track and field during the 2023-2024 school year were eligible.
