Boys Athlete of the Week nominees

Isaac Byers Jr., Ashbrook: After a 23-point showing in a 69-63 victory against North Lincoln, Byers netted a game-high 39 points in an 85-83 overtime win against East Lincoln.

John Carmichael, Piedmont Community Charter: Achieved a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds in a 73-46 triumph over Highland Tech. He then scored 25 points in an 85-79 defeat to Lincoln Charter. 

Immanuel Collins, Shelby: Returned a kickoff for a touchdown during the Golden Lions’ 41-23 defeat against Monroe.

Jalen Howard, North Gaston: Scored 35 points, including five 3-pointers, along with six rebounds, three assists, and two steals in a 66-37 victory over Cherryville. He then added 18 points in a 52-32 win over East Gaston.

Kellen Karr, North Lincoln: Secured a double-double with 17 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists in a 78-71 loss to Ardrey Kell. Later in the week, he achieved a triple-double with 12 points, 20 rebounds, and 11 assists in a 90-60 victory against Forestview. 

Girls Athlete of the Week nominees

Happy Arune, Gaston Christian: Achieved a double-double with 24 points and 23 rebounds in a 73-45 victory over Metrocarolina Christian. 

Sa’Ryah McCorke, Forestview: Attained a double-double with 24 points, 16 rebounds, and six blocks in a 73-69 overtime win at Bessemer City. She then recorded another double-double with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks in a 55-50 win over Cuthbertson. 

Toney Milton, South Point: Notched her first career double-double with 20 points, including five 3-pointers, and 10 rebounds in a 69-25 win against York. She also scored 10 points in a 54-31 victory over Catawba Ridge.

Emma Montanari, East Lincoln: Scored a team-best 29 points with nine rebounds in a 77-66 defeat to Hibriten. She followed up with 31 points, nine rebounds, five steals, five assists, and five blocks in a 60-35 win over Ashbrook. 

Ally Smith, North Lincoln: Scored 16 points in a 58-53 victory over Hickory Ridge. She then led her team with 26 points in a 70-56 victory against Ashbrook. Smith capped the week with 30 points in an 80-37 win over Forestview.
