Requests for comment from the SEC and Arkansas have not been returned Friday night.“Allowing athletes to continue to compete in a smoke filled Stegeman Coliseum is irresponsible at best,” Shannon Buff posted on X with video from inside the coliseum.The Georgia gymnastics SEC meet against Arkansas was held on Friday night after a small fire outside Stegeman Coliseum was quickly extinguished, according to a University of Georgia spokesman.The fire was reported at 6:51 p.m., nine minutes before the start time for the meet and was extinguished at 7 p.m., the school said. The cause is under investigation.

Some fans who attended the event took to the social media platform X to voice their displeasure that the competition was held with smoke inside the arena.
“There was a small fire involving leaves outside the coliseum,” a statement from the UGA Police Department that UGA spokesman Greg Trevor sent to the Athens Banner-Herald on Friday night. “Smoke caused by the fire entered the ventilation system. (Athens Clarke-County) Fire Department, assisted by UGA PD, quickly extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported.”
