PITTSBURG — Lily Brown, a freshman at Pittsburg State University, delivered a remarkable performance in her first collegiate competition at the Boo Rogers Combined Events on Friday (Dec. 6), securing an impressive third place in the pentathlon at the Robert W. Plaster Center.

With a total of 3608 points accrued across the five events—60m hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump, and 800 meters—Brown excelled by achieving the top height in the high jump (5-6.5) and finishing runner-up in both the shot put (37-9.25) and long jump (18-1). She led the standings after four events but finished the 800m in 12th place with a time of 2:40.54. In the pentathlon, she successfully met the NCAA provisional qualifying criteria and also attained a PQ mark in the high jump.

Another freshman, Maggie Salsbury, also made a positive impression in her Pitt State debut, finishing in fifth place with 3450 points. Her strongest event was the high jump, where she achieved a fourth-place finish (5-4.25). Salsbury, too, eclipsed the NCAA provisional standard in the pentathlon.

Winning the pentathlon was Valerie Olson from Oklahoma Baptist with a score of 3690 points, while Miranda Burgett from Arkansas State took second place with 3672 points.

Pitt State athlete Doug Brown concluded the first day of the heptathlon in fourth position with 3008 points, while Colby Eddowes of Arkansas State currently leads the event with 3281 points.

Brown finished third in the high jump (6-6.75) and fifth in the 60 meters (7.07).

The second day of the heptathlon will commence at 9 a.m. Saturday, ahead of the start of the Crimson & Gold Invitational at 11:30 a.m.
