TALLADEGA, Ala. (WBRC) – Governor Ivey has removed all of the members of the Motorsports Hall of Fame Commission, months after a state audit found dozens of violations in governance and discovered a former employee allegedly stole more than $200,000.

“Governor Ivey is responsible for ensuring all state entities are operating effectively with transparency,” Ivey’s Communications Director Gina Maiola told WBRC. “After the governor reviewed the audit on the Motor Sports Hall of Fame, she made the decision to remove all members of the Commission and appoint new membership to carry out the mission. The governor takes accountability very seriously and she felt difficult action was necessary.”

The IMHOF’s Executive Director, Adam Stocks, tells WBRC the executive board fired the part-time employee as soon as the alleged theft was discovered in the midst of a state audit.

The audit showed that former employee allegedly paid more than $5,000 on personal power bill payments, over $74,000 to creditors not related to the Hall of Fame commission, and wrote checks for cash and withdrew more than $22,000.

Stocks says he has now resigned his position as executive director.

” I have also resigned my position as Executive Director. I thoroughly enjoyed my time as Executive Director at the IMHOF and extremely proud of what my staff and I accomplished while there. I wish the new Board Of Directors and new Executive Director nothing but the best and look forward to seeing the IMHOF continue its progress.”
