WAUSAU, Wis. (WJFW)- Granite Peak in Wausau is commencing its 87th skiing and snowboarding season at Rib Mountain State Park. In the last two weeks, the team has been working diligently to ensure the slopes are well-groomed and prepared for the inaugural day.
“On the first day, we will be utilizing approximately 40 acres of terrain, but by the second day we expect to expand to around 70 acres as we will open some additional trails,” noted Greg Fisher, General Manager of Granite Peak.
During the opening weekend, Granite Peak anticipates having six trails open, including Exhibition, Sundance, Summit Trail, Meadow, Hot Cocoa, and a terrain park in Aspen.
“The current open trails have required about five to seven days of not just snowmaking, but also the team working with the groomers to move the snow and prepare it for optimal skiing conditions,” Fisher explained.
Granite Peak operates from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with holiday exceptions. Those interested in learning to ski or snowboard can find various learning opportunities at Granite Peak.
“We employ over a hundred ski and snowboard instructors, and we offer excellent beginner terrain,” Fisher added.
The ski season will continue through the first week of April, and for additional information, you can check out here.
