A film that didn’t get the praise it deserves is Babylon, the fourth feature from La La Land’s Damien Chazelle. Margot Robbie stars as Nellie LaRoy opposite Diego Calva as Manny Torres in this tale of outsized ambition and outrageous excess, tracing the rise and fall of multiple characters during an era of unbridled decadence and depravity in early Hollywood. It scooped up three Oscar nominations for its technical work but ultimately fell off the radar despite having a loyal following who love its debauchery. It’s a Movie with a capital M and well worth the watch if you’re yet to see it.Till tells the important true story of the 1955 tragedy where Emmett Till was murdered in a brutal lynching. The film stars Danielle Deadwyler as his mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, who vows to expose the racism behind the attack while working to have those involved brought to justice. Chinonye Chukwu directs with Jalyn Hall, Frankie Faison, Sean Patrick Thomas, John Douglas Thompson and Whoopi Goldberg starring alongside Deadwyler.
