BOSTON – Senior All-American Nathan Green has once again etched his name at the top of a Husky record list today during the inaugural meet of the 2024-25 indoor track season. At the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston, Green shattered the School Record for 3,000-meters, finishing with a time of 7:40.09. In total, the Dawgs achieved five new top-10 marks among a roster of ten runners.
This marks the fourth distinct distance where Green holds the record in school history. He also boasts the UW record at 800-meters (1:46.23), 1,000-meters (2:18.56), and 1,500-meters (3:32.20 set during a fifth-place finish at Olympic Trials this past summer).
In today’s top heat of the men’s 3k, Green finished fifth, with the top four competitors all surpassing the previous NCAA record.
In the women’s 3,000-meters, Amina Maatoug continues her upward trajectory following a strong NCAA XC performance, crossing the line in 9:00.65, which propels her to No. 4 in UW history. Also competing in the 3k, Chloe Foerster finished in 9:15.90, Claire Yerby achieved a five-second personal record at 9:18.06, and new transfer Maggie Liebich secured a 10-second personal best in her UW debut with a time of 9:26.75.
A couple of Husky newcomers in the 1,000-meters produced impressive top-10 times. Kyle Reinheimer, a transfer from North Carolina, finished second in the 1k with a time of 2:21.30, while close behind him was Justin O’Toole, a transfer from Columbia, who clocked 2:21.44. These performances rank them fourth and fifth in school history.
Freshman Martin Barco made his collegiate debut with a personal best indoors in the mile, recording a time of 4:05.46. Senior transfer Rhys Hammond kicked off his season with a personal best in the 3,000-meters, finishing in under 8 minutes at 7:57.99.
The final Husky on the track today was Julia David-Smith, who earned one last top-10 mark in the 5,000-meters. David-Smith finished in 15:55.05, marking her quickest 5k indoors or outdoors, putting her at No. 8 in school history indoors.
Next week, another set of Dawgs will kick off their season with competition at the Spokane Invitational at The Podium on Saturday, Dec. 14.
